HAVE LITURGIES AT ST. PETER’S BASILICA GOTTEN THEIR GROOVE BACK WITH THE TRANSITION OF PAPACIES AND OUR NEW POPE LEO XIV? I THINK SO.

As soon as Pope Francis had gone to His Holiness’ eternal reward, Cardinal Farrell, wearing a strikingly beautiful cope, accompanied the pope’s body as it was transferred from the Vatican Motel VI to Saint Peter’s Basilica.

Some of the liturgies during the nine Masses of Mourning at the Basilica saw cardinals wearing some very beautiful vestments.

Pope Leo, of course, has refined tastes as His Holiness refines Pope Francis’ papacy. It is a non-canceling refinement, but truly a refinement of tastes, clarity and no ambiguity, no off-the-cuff magisterium and so far no interviews although that may come. Even Pope Benedict answered reporters’ questions and had a book length interview with a trusted reporter friend.

But on Thursday, Cardinal Parolin, once thought to be papabile, celebrated an Episcopal Ordination at St. Peter’s Chair of the Altar.

Of note is the beautiful chasuble he wore, bejewel too!

Most folk at the Vatican have been there long enough to know that when in Rome, do as the American does.

It seems like the officials relaxed a bit from the extremes that had been normative.

Beauty should shine forth in our liturgies, else, I don't know, they are too iconoclastic.

Hoping that portable altar is removed. It is a clash. The altar of the chair should be restored after its needless destruction. Brick by brick patience is needed.

Unrelated, except for Prevost, but Sandro Magister has an article on Bishop Prevost in Peru covering a news article from down yonder which media up this-a-way might miss.
