We need to form a protective spiritual shield around His Holiness. That is the case as verbal attacks within, and without the Church, have exploded today
May we unite with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Dear Saint Joseph, and all the Angels and Saints, in pray for Pope Leo XIV's spiritual/physical protection...as well the holy success of his Pontificate.
All this apart from the tv documentary over his mishandling abuse in Peru...
Where my thoughts are, "And this is the best guy for pope that most cardinals could agree upon? Sheesh, what did the other guys look like? ...Did they even really look, or was this just a vote along party lines? ...Whatever it was, it was business as usual at the Vatican."
Francis clearly disliked America and Americans. We have been a thorn in his side because we have resisted. The civil war in the Catholic Church is between the small but vocal Tradition-minded people and the "modernist/synodalist" liberal types who have a lock (death grip, really) on the leadership of the Church. Traditionalists are the only sector of the Church showing real growth and the attitude from the bishops is "ANYTHING but THAT!" Francis's tone deafness to tradition and his own verbal insensitivity exacerbated the problem.
Unlike Protestants, Catholics don't go out and start new sects. We are more likely to stay put and resist. The resistance is even more repugnant to the leadership because it tends to be more politically conservative and most support an adminstration that has actually DARED to call out the U.S. Bishops for their manipulation of government funding to use for "charitable" causes like enabling illegal immigration and various other leftist schemes.
It is no secret that the cash flow reduction from the U.S. has hurt the Vatican and the resistance of Traditionalists that continues to grow wherever it is planted is rooted most deeply in the U.S.. So the best way to get Francis 2.0 in place is to find an idealogical compatriot like Prevost who is more likely to reach the cash cow of American Catholics, because he IS an American.
He's also a contradiction. He appears to be uber-liberal on many issues and somewhat conservative on others--hard as it is to apply that paradigm to the Church. It will be interesting to see how the conclave's gambit plays out.
Well K will be devastated to learn that Pope Leo was a registered Republican in Illinois, so it appears he supports innocent human life over the Party of Intrinsic Evil. It will ruin fake, evil Catholic Pelosi's day as well!
TJM: Who cares what K or MT or for that matter anyone else thinks politically? Don't we have more important things to concern ourselves with than this perpetual game of "gotcha"? Our world is a mess and so is our Church. Needling each other in the comment boxes isn't making anything better. You and I tend to agree on a lot of things and that's great. I tend to disagree with those guys too, but they are still our brothers and taunting them and calling them names and rubbing their noses in what we disagree about isn't helping heal the "family rift" (best term I could think of at the moment). In the end, Catholics are all supposed to be on the same team. Can't we try to bigger than our annoyances--and I say this as someone who struggles to do just that.
Can you imagine Jesus saying, "Oh yeah Judas? I KNOW you're going to betray me at some point, so just shut up!"?
Mark, as you can see below, even his own home town paper is less than thrilled over what appears typical Chicagoan/Bergoglian/yea, and verily, Roman, stonewalling and at minimum, rank insensitivity, regarding sexual abuse of children....
so, your unassailable papacy is already under seige, and from the leftist/progressive side, your perfect pope made the clergy watch list, which is anything but a conservative outfit...
Bob, I agree that Pope Leo XIV is under siege. I had noted that here last night: "That is the case as verbal attacks within, and without the Church, have exploded today."
=======
But I should note the following in light of the attacks that have been directed at His Holiness: It is a given that the overwhelming amount of Catholics can be counted upon to love and respect the Roman Pontiff.
The badmouthing of His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, will not turn the overwhelming majority of Catholics against him.

Deo gratias for Pope Leo XIV!
God has gifted us with a Pope who, blessed with never-failing faith, will shepherd us to the Truth. Pope Leo XIV's Magisterium is unassailable.
May God grant Pope Leo XIV, who has been blessed with supernatural wisdom and knowledge, many happy and blessed years.
Pax.

It's starting to make sense.

Jerome (my middle name),
I agree - we all know what they are.
I am a bit optimistic about Leo.
1) I like his family background;
2) he is registered as a Republican in Illinois;
3) he is not a slob;
4) he has a mild mannered personality and not a nasty sort;
5) he was trained as a canonist and appears to be a critical thinker; and
6) he is opposed to the LGBT agenda!
I wish him well
