LET ME OFFER A GOOD HOMILY FOR THE DISGRACED AND EXCOMMUNICATED BROTHER HUBBARD…

My brothers and sisters, if not for the Incarnation, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as well as His ascension, pouring out of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and His return at the end of time to judge the living and dead, all of us no matter how good or how bad, sinner or saint would be condemned to the everlasting fire of hell.

Thus today we pray for and commend the immortal soul of our disgraced and excommunicated brother Hubbard to God’s merciful judgement.

May God have mercy on our Brother Hubbard as we offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the happy repose of the soul of our Brother Hubbard and we worthily receive the Crucified, Risen and Gloried Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ Who alone saves the sinner and saint, the good and the bad.

To God, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit  be all the praise and glory!

You said a lot in a very concise way, Fr.

Real world, if such words were offered during a funeral mass, how well do you think they would be received? The proverbial choir here would get it. Those at funerals, many of which haven't warmed a pew since the last funeral they attended, would probably be taken a back by its brevity. I'm not for adding filler for the sake of dragging things out, though I guess that's what I'm suggesting. I think the balance might need to include a bit more to not have irate relatives. Who knows, maybe they won't be irate...it'll get some to the bar at the repast more quickly.

You can't please everyone. Misplaced effort trying, I guess.

But this short homily is for a Catholic bishop who dies in disgrace or any Catholic who dies in disgrace—the reason for the brevity.

Gotcha, Fr. I see your point. I was thinking of just Joe-Average's funeral with a crowd partly comprised of C/E "Catholics"/"Catholics" in name only.

The time has come where priests and bishops are going to have to publicly take sides and stand up for the truth of Christ, regardless of the cost.

The bishop left us with a flaming mile marker as to why we should have frequent confession.

Mine would have been shorter, "May God have mercy on his soul," and I would be fine with that for my funeral homily as well.

There is an old time traditional song popular among Appalachian folk musicians called “Little Black Train” that instructs the listener on the severity of unprepared for judgement. It is difficult to not judge, especially in this case.

Berlin is gay central in Europe. Shocker! I hope the Archbishop likes heat

Since you posted this blog, Father, the family of Hubbard issued a two page statement expressing their anger at the Ordinary of Albany for not recognizing the greatness of their late uncle during his homily. The hubris! The arrogance! As Pius X wisely observed: “Pride sits in the heart of the modernist as if in his own home.”
