Some have said that Pope Benedict’s brilliant liberalization of the Ancient Liurgies and Sacramental life of the Church led to the radicalization of some, if not the majority, of Catholics who desire the ancient liturgies and they were posing a schism or a stumbling block to Pope Francis desire to break with the past as he forms a “different” Church.
But in India’s Syro-Malabar Church, it is precisely Vatican II and their “Mass” facing the people which has led to a breach with Pope Francis. In fact in this rite in India, the majority of clergy and laity oppose Pope Francis, not for canceling their past but trying to recover it. This is one more sign of the incoherence of this pope’s leadership.
So, if the Ancient Latin Mass was leading to a schism with Pope Francis, is Mass facing the people in the Syro-Malabar Church and Vatican II leading that huge group into schism with Pope Francis and should Pope Francis cancel Mass facing the people as well as Vatican II to prevent a schism with the pope?
That was the thinking, in reverse, for canceling the TLM in the Latin Rite!
