PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, DO THE PROPER ELEVATION OF THE CHASUBLE!

Ever since that marvelous document, Summorum Pontificum was promulgated in 2007, I have been on a tirade about how high altar servers raise the chasuble during the elevations of the Mass.

IT IS WAY TO HIGH! AND IT MAKE ME SEE RED!

Here is an example done to yours truly just recently which is wrong! Wrong! Wrong! ! Oh, the agony of it all:

Here is the correct way to lift off the chasuble! It is right! Right! Right! Do it this way!!!

That is something you see on occasion. It is frankly distracting and a little funny although don’t laugh. At least not really loud.

Are those candles 50% or 51% beeswax?

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

FrMJK, that and the ingredients of the bread you use should be completely ignored in favor of flexibility and lawlessness.

FrK laughs, but the bees wax ratio makes a difference! My wife is a mad scientist and has learned to make everything from sausage, beer, wines, sauces, kimchee, curries, chutneys pepper mixes, etc. from everywhere we’ve been. She had bees for a while and can demonstrate the reason for the ratio. What I have learned from her is that the ancient folks had reasons for what they did and were not stupid or fools.

Servers lift the chasuble. They shouldn't be trying to take it off.

< 50% beeswax = invalid sacraments :~)

If how high the chasuble hem is lifted isn't petty, I don't know what is.

The real question we should be asking is how much does the sleeve or portion of the arm of the chausable impede Fr.? If not much, then who cares as long as you lift it! If it does, then do the latter. If things should be part of the liturgy they should be of either practical or symbolic significance or both. Otherwise stop giving our enemies WITHIN and without cannon fodder.

Father K,

No one here questions your knowledge about a number of subjects, so why do you insist on throwing in your opinion about a form of the Mass that you--from all appearances--have no interest in and will likely never offer yourself, just to insult your fellow priest?

Fr. Michael J. Kavanaugh said...

Jerome, first, many here question my knowledge on a number of subjects.

Second, my comment on chasuble hem-lifting isn't an insult to Fr. ALLAN McDonald. It is a comment directed to the wholly unnecessary action by altar servers. The height of lift is as inconsequential as the percentage of beeswax in candles. Worrying about either of them is, I would say, pointless.

Servimus, one of the great tragedies of our contemporary situation is that people, like you, have concluded that those who disagree with us on politics, architecture, liturgy, music, etc., are "enemies," whether WITHIN or without.

This sad reality has been called the culture of contempt. And it threatens to cause great harm to the remaining threads that, at least for the present, hold us together.

Wow Fr MJK, someone didn’t get his dose of “Table of Plenty” to the tune of guitar strings and recorders today.

Within? Look I get your on the “liberal” side of the Theo-Liturgical spectrum of politics in the Church, but are you really that in denial of what’s going on, especially as a friend and an avid reader of Fr AJM’s
blog?

With all due respect Fr, this papacy has been a disaster for the devout faithful. If you haven’t noticed, hmmm let’s see. Of recent,
Fr Rupnik, a Jesuit who made modern art (Including, correct me if I’m wrong that awful 3 eyed hybrid Jesus for the Extraordinary Year of Mercy,) had to be taken away from ministry and will likely be laicized (if not already) for sexual impropriety at the very least. Recently, Pope Francis appointed as the head of the Dicastery for Doctrine of the Faith, a cardinal lacking background in such area, who wrote a “kissing book” designed for YOUTH! And he has not totally repented of the act, other than to make a “sorry, not sorry” of “yeah I see it’s not appropriate TODAY …” but does not repent of his creation.

And as for Pope Francis, as Bergoglio the bitter man he IS unfortunately against the lay faithful and those who love traditon, especially the Latin Mass. His outbursts of anger are also public ally known, and they are beyond his Italian “tongue in cheek” insults in his speeches. Yes there is truth to the abuse of the EF for attacks against the pope, but as time went on he has shown his true colours between politics, disposing people NOT in blind devotion to his rule, and he attacked the LAITY! In approving the Dubia follow up to Traditionis Custodes in no EF baptisms and highly restricted marriage sacraments! Yes Infallability will protect the Church from outright heresy, but that doesn’t stop Jorge from abusing his power of free will in whatever he is allowed. And God must respect his free will as a human, even if he is Pope, to commit other sins or fall prey to human faults such as political power.

And if you really want to go down the rabbit hole … there’s all the stuff of the Occult/Illuminati as well and infiltration in the Church of Communists/Lavender Mafia. Don’t want to believe that it’s your choice but there ARE people out there who have been part of that, who have learnt spells, TRUE witchcraft, demonic rituals etc. and they have escaped from it and are testifying. And before you say they are nuts, do YOU Fr have the education and experience as a clinical psychologist/psychiatrist/psychotherapist to say ALL those people who’ve escaped that are insane?

Fr, maybe WE the laity, the remainder who aren’t blind puppets for society and anti-life/anti-nuclear family movements, are fed up with the garbage being forced down our throats. And we, who want Catholic IDENTITY and a Faith that actually STANDS for something, are tired of those of that mindset (on mental and theological ‘steroids’) acting exactly like the world and giving us no different than what secular society and liturgically our Non-Catholic brethren can provide.

And on all these notes. If you wanted us Laity to shut up, pay, pray and obey with whatever the top down shoved down our throats, well then your predecessors shouldn’t have held Vatican II and given us more power in the Church, combined with society’s increasing enforcement of a-morality even to the point of secular law. If you can’t take it, then don’t dish it.

Enough time wasted here. Unless anyone else on this blog wants to spend time with my directly I’m just going to read replies here. Have a blessed Transfiguration Sunday everyone, no matter what Form of the Latin Rite you prefer.

Servimus - So, it seems you think that those who share your opinions preferences on "politics, architecture, liturgy, music, etc.," are the "devout faithful," for whom this papacy as been a disaster" and the rest of us are neither devout nor faithful? You see, that's the kind of artificial, self-serving polarization that is so perilous.

You are bothered by "that awful 3 eyed hybrid Jesus." Have you ever seen the Shield of the Trinity with Tricephalic Trinity and the Four Evangelists. Kerver Book of Hours, 1507? Not only does Jesus have three eyes, He has three heads on one body. This kind of representation of the Trinity was, while not common, fairly widely used in Catholic art in the middle ages. Just because you don't care for it, or just because it is Rupnik's art, does make it "awful."

For me, Servimus, you go too far 'round the bend when you get into the Occult/Illuminati/Witches/Spells stuff. There are LOTS of people who claim LOTS of things, from being abducted by aliens to being turned into newts by witches. As we know, the abductees were returned and those who had been transformed by witch's spells "Got better." (See "Monty Python and the Holy Grail.")

Servimus,

You are dealing with someone who is not playing with a full deck - he votes for Party dedicated to killing the unborn and the sexual grooming of children so take his opinions with a grain of salt
