While it is unfortunate what was done to the sanctuary, Albany, NY’s renovation of its Catholic Cathedral could have been much worse. Apart for the sanctuary, the cathedral itself is marvelously preserved in its beauty, not a whitewash. The sanctuary could be happily restored somewhat easily but expensive nonetheless. While we don’t worship money, money offered as love offerings should not be wasted on useless renovations only to have to spend more money to correct the big mistake of a renovation that cost too much:

Of course the biretta or is it beretta doesn’t help the cause of my hair, but at my age, who cares!

I pray you are standing there with future priests!
What a horrible "renovation" of the cathedral in Albany.
I don’t think it would cost very much to complete the restoration of Albany’s cathedral. It just needs to have the high altar cleaned and placed in the sanctuary, it’s altar rail refurbished and reinstalled, and the confessional revitalized. Nothing costly.
Regarding Albany, at least the walls look nice.
Oh, whoops I forgot: maybe Albany could put a Crucifix in that sanctuary too. Hopefully it will remain a Catholic Church and not morph into a house of worship or brew pub. Strange city Albany is, New York not Georgia.
