This is quite telling:
Redemptorist Fr. Tony Flannery revealed to NCR Sept. 15 that he had received a letter from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith over the summer.
It asks him to affirm the church's official positions on a male-only priesthood, gay relationships, civil unions and gender identity.
My comment:
What bishop, priest and deacon, in his right mind, that is, an orthodox mind, would think this is too much for the Church, meaning the CDF, Pope Francis' Doctrinal arm, would ask such a thing? It shows you how far the post-Vatican II, spirit of Vatican II, ambiguities of Vatican II and the ensuing years have gone, that someone would reject this. Why not just leave the damn Church and join the Anglican Communion or one of the more liberal branches of Lutheranism??????

Good suggestions--come over to America and join the Episcopal Church, or what is left of it (50% membership loss since the 1960s) or the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America). Maybe even United Church of Christ. Heck, churches in decline can't be picky!!!
We are in trouble when the "undebateable" becomes debateable!!!
I have asked that question for many years. The answer is that these people are seditious and trying to destroy the Church from within.
In regard to Father McDonald's comment about leaving the Church:
It is interesting that such mutineers as Father Flannery prefer to remain with the Church.
He doesn't believe in Her authority over him.
He is engaged in a pipe-dream to believe that the Church will overthrow the teachings that he desires.
We just have to pray for Father Flannery.

Mark, your position, enunciated numerous times on this blog, is that Father Flannery is orthodox. He has not been excommunicated by his bishop or the pope; therefore, he is in communion with the Holy Father, Pope Francis. And if someone is in communion with the Holy Father, that person is orthodox.
You've stated that several times here.
You said in the past that Hans Kung SJ and Robert Drinan SJ were orthodox for those very reasons.
So, the only conclusion one can come to, using your own words, is that, because he is in communion with Pope Francis, Father Flannery's views are orthodox.
