Young, inexperienced and not really from the 70’s although he is retro, Father Danny, really thinks he has hit the nail on the head as he makes sweeping judgmental judgements against the super orthodox as he might think they are. He thinks they can’t deal with the various shades of gray in the Church and culture.
He seems to fall into the same heresies he describes, speaking partial truth and thus really screwing things up. Thus I give the good, young Father Danny a D- on his essay on morality and heresy reminding him “physician heal thyself.”
This is the money-byte that sums up his heresy:
We see this in the way that some Catholics reduce the rich and nuanced moral teachings of the church to focus exclusively on abortion to the exclusion of other equally or greater pressing social sins, such as capital punishment, torture, economic inequality, euthanasia, racial justice, among others. And how this distorted single-issue reductionism is deployed against those perceived to be political enemies.

Ironically, Dennis Horan of Chicago, was a leading light in the Pro-Life movement before his death.

Can this unfortunate man not see that an unborn child is completely innocent? And that his other so called "equally or greater sins" are committed by the guilty? This priest should do penance and make reparations for giving scandal.
