MANY POST VATICAN CLERGY AND LAITY HAVE NO FEAR OF GOD AND NO FEAR OF HELL

A part of the spirit of Vatican II heretical thinking is that we should be good and moral, according to our own particular discernment as to what this means, not because we fear hell but because we should do what is right according to our subjective situational ethics and doing the right thing based upon our own understanding of love.

Thus, we in our 70’s seminary speculated that we should be moral according to the new Catholic moral theology even if there wasn’t a heaven or hell.  Sounds agnostics or atheistic, no?

I have suggested the Church needs to recover the pre-Vatican II (1950’s) ethos, discipline, and style of priestly and religious life with its formal protocols.

Crux has an article about a historian who suggested in 2004, in the midst of the first major wave of the clergy sex abuse scandal, that the Church should recover the Medieval approach to sexual immorality!  Wow! I like this man and praise Crux for this story with the complete article at Crux by pressing the title::

Medieval reform proposals can help current abuse crisis, historian says

ROME - A radical program of reform addressing the widespread problem of abusive clergy and negligent superiors in the 11th century holds some essential insights and lessons for the Church today, a Church historian has said.
St. Peter Damian - honored by Pope Leo XII in 1828 as a doctor of the Church for his reform efforts - came up with an effective strategy that emphasized the need for public accountability, strict penalties for offenders and their superiors, and the obligation of laypeople to step in when Church leaders fail to reform themselves, said C. Colt Anderson, a theologian and expert in Church reformers.

The saint realized that sexually abusive clerics and those who failed to stop them were “more afraid to be despised by men than to be judged by God,” Anderson wrote in an in-depth article on Damian.
This loss of a proper fear of the Lord and his final judgment is linked to a lack of accountability, and it “seems to be one of the root causes behind the current crisis,” he wrote in the article titled, “When Magisterium Becomes Imperium: Peter Damian on the Accountability of Bishops for Scandal.”

Most theologians and Priests/preachers are closet universalists. They just can't get their over-educated heads around the idea that God might send someone to Hell. The closest thing to Hell to which most will admit is some kind of annihilationism or "eternal separation from God." The idea that evil might actually be punished is usually absent from their theology, if not from their social philosophy. This thinking is not Biblical by any stretch, but Scripture has been so "redacted" and re-interpreted by those with an Enlightenment/modernist agenda that they actually believe their own nonsense. So, there they will be amid the smoke and flames of Hell, the brimstone burning their flesh...and they will look to their left and see the burning and pus-ridden skin of an Episcopalian Priest, then to their right they will hear the painful cries of a kindly seminary professor, and all around them will be the tormented souls of academics and preachers of the New Hermeneutic writhing in anguish. They will then look up to Heaven and cry, "But, Lord, we didn't know!!" And, then, they will hear the creak of the hinges, the rattle of the chain, the snap of the lock, and the closing of the great forged door of Eternity and God's last words to them, "Well, now you know!" All because they could not comprehend the simple words of the Saviour, "Repent and believe the Gospel."

The Federal Government Inspector General System is applicable to the Church organizations too. Apostolic visitation used today is not adequate to control financial or sexual abuse problems. The 11th century solution would work today as well. Lay watch group over dioceses would give a proper, meaningful, and rightful participation in ecclesial governance. Long overdue. Sort of a lay Society of St. Damian. No?

There is some strain of theology I have heard mentioned from a pulpit many years ago that posits that everyone eventually gets to Heaven because God is merciful. Hell is really just Purgatory Plus and after being exposed to the majesty of God for some thousands of years that the stiffest neck will bend and be forgiven. I wonder if this logic, if not the actual theology, is also the source of the idea that lustful affection for someone, even someone with similar anatomy, is also Love and justifies genital massage. It makes me wonder if the Cardinal in question believes he did anything wrong, but was merely a man ahead of his time. I do think the clergy are filled with men who think that and are working daily to change the Church, surreptitiously, by teaching small errors that eventually assemble bigs ones, or by recruiting and replacing men of faith with men of destiny. I notice in the news Pope Francis has banned the death penalty via changes, allegedly, to the catechism. The timing of that is fortunate for the red hatted rapists and pedophiles in third world countries although it might be ignored along with the rest of Catholic teaching.

"Repent and believe the Gospel." applies also to those who advocate or rationalize killing non-combatants during war.

"Repent and believe the Gospel" does not that also apply to the Abortion Party, formerly the Democratic Party, with regard to their jihad against the unborn?

My apologies. My last comment above was meant for another post: "MANY POST VATICAN CLERGY AND LAITY HAVE NO FEAR OF GOD AND NO FEAR OF HELL".

No, "Repent and believe in the Gospel" does not apply to political parties.

reminds me of a stories from the dark ages, 1970, my uncle, a big tall strong man, a veteran of the battle of the bulge and a roofer by trade, his son was accosted by a male teacher in high school, he decked the man, got expelled and sent home, my uncle upon hearing this took him right back to school, found the handsy teacher and got him by the neck and informed him ” if you ever try that again I will hurt you so bad you will wish you were dead, and I KNOW HOW. teacher resigned that day

Loved that man even though I never heard the story till years after he passed, he just exuded strength, but also was a barrel of laughs, and a good devout Catholic

maybe this treatment needs to be extended to religious, they are not gods, especially when they act this way
