FLAV AND MARC PRODUCED THIS VIDEO!

When the patriarch of Constantinople turns out to be a heretic, he can be deposed. And, anyway, he is just one bishop (and the bishop of a very small flock at that). What he does affects very few people.

When the bishop of Rome is a heretic, then everyone is forced to follow suit. That is the problem with having one bishop to which every other bishop in the world is merely an assistant serving at the will of the one actual bishop.

Anyway, I am really more of a Patriarch Kiril sort of fellow. He seems like a guy who takes all this Christianity stuff pretty seriously.

I do not know why my name is in the title of this post.

Come on Flav! You sound just like the Patriarch in this video. You had to have made it with Marc who is a liberal wingnut who tolerates second and third adulterous marriages, singing Kumbaya all the way, until and except when it comes to the magic number of 4. He's so liberal and progressive that he makes the NCR (National Chismatic Reporter) blush.

Father, i guess the church fathers were a bunch of liberals who sang a lot of kumbaya.

Also, the Roman Church allows second, third, fourth, etc. marriages. You just have to get the annulment. The Orthodox divorce system is much more regulated and strict than the Roman annulment mill.

Once again,

There is zero reason for my name to be in the title of this post.

Flav, yes it does solely because this satire captures in the Patriarch your rhetoric or apologetic as it concerns Orthodoxy. What he says, you write here.

You know this video is making fun of the duplicity of the pope, right? This video has nothing to do with anything we've been discussion.

And why does the patriarch have a Russian accent?

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

Exactly Marc, you and Flav could have put this together as you both seem to think as this Lutheran does, that the Holy Father is duplicitous. But the rhetoric and arrogance of the Orthodox equals the pope's duplicity, no?

Satire, as Orthodox are often viewed with suspicion especially during Communism when they were in league with secular officials, similar to the Muslims today in Islamic states, is what this Lutheran does very well.

It seems rather clear to me that the only one demonstrating arrogance in our recent conversations is you. And your rhetoric is absurd -- in your most recent comment you seem to imply some conspiracy between the Orthodox and the Communists. This is an affront to the millions of martyrs who died for the faith at the hands of the atheists.

"Orthodox are viewed with suspicion..."

What are you talking about? Most the people I know have never heard of Orthodoxy.

Father, why won't you address hat I've written on the other thread? Why do keep avoiding giving any sort of answer over there that isn't a non sequitur or ad hominem?

You're still doing it here, too.

I've been to the Republic of Georgia where there is the Georgian Orthodox Church and the Russian Orthodox Church and the Russian Orthodox Church in all countries of the east were seen as having bishops and priests loyal to the communists and often untied with the communist leaders. Speak to Fr. Dawid about the Orthodox too. No one's perfect of course, no Utopias in religion!

You've been to Georgia. Wowzer. We're you there for two days? Four? Maybe a week? And you had a guide there, no? So, in a very short visit with a minder controlling you, you've become an expert on all things Georgian and Russian Orthodox.

Utterly amazing.
