Spotlight about The Boston Globe's investigative reporting on Boston's sex abuse scandal is a major, major box office FLOP.
Gross to date after three weeks: $5,804,495
Estimated final gross: $15,000,000
Compare to The Hunger Games:
After one week: gross--$102,665,981
Estimated final gross: $283,000,000
Despite the reality of this DUD, the press in a narcissistic way continues to portray it as the best thing since Constantine! And Hollywood will nominate it for an academy award. I wonder why? Do you know?

The bishops of Holy Mother Church willfully failed in their duties to protect the faithful from abusive priests: priest who preach false doctrines, priests who promote liturgical irreverence, and priests who sexually molest little boys. I haven't seen this film, and I have no doubts that it contains inaccuracies about the Church (as reporting and entertainment usually do), but I commend efforts to keep alive memories of the global injustices that surfaced in Boston.
Perhaps this film is nothing to celebrate, but nether is its failure.
Of course, it's a commercial flop. Most serious films about grown-up topics are. Did you really think it was going to compete with Hunger Games? I don't think Spotlight has even come to Macon.
But will Hollywood and the news media uncover the current scandal of the USCCB helping to bring Muslim refugees into the USA?

If these reports are true, that the US Bishops are bringing Muslims into the US, they are betraying the Catholic faith and putting American citizens in grave danger. If this is true, I would call for all US Bishops and the entire USCCB to be excommunicated immediately. I am a Chaldean who was born and lived in Iraq and have since adopted America as my new home, and I warn you to turn Muslim refugees away! Islam is NOT A RELIGION. It is a CULT! I urge and beg all Americans to contact their Bishops to tell them to TURN THE MUSLIMS AWAY! Do not help the Muslims enter America!
I concur that The Boston Globe did what needed to be done by investigative reporters. And their articles in the Globe was not for entertainment. It was news.
This movie on the other hand is for entertainment. There is nothing entertaining about it as its topic is sad and of course a scandal that afflicted so many innocents and their families.
If a movie had to be made, its proceeds should have been given to the Church in Boston earmarked for victims.
What happened in Boston did much harm to the Church. I''m glad to see that this film is not doing that well, since I see this kind of movie inflicting further harm. This kind of film plays into the hands of those who do not like the Church. I agree that some of the proceeds should go to the victims.
A far cry from Going My Way and The Bells of St. Mary's when Hollyweird would not have dared trample on Holy Mother Church
My friends and I are already calling it "SnotLight."
I think that, like little children sometimes do, Eugene has "imaginary friends". (They sometimes like to use "naughty" words.)
Yes, Gob, the old "me" "not Me" stage of ego development...you know, the one you are fixated in.
TJM - Telling the truth about Holy Mother Church is not "trampling" on her....
