Ignoring Pope Francis, American Bishops Keep Focus On Abortion And Gays

Here's the story:
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The nation's Roman Catholic bishops meeting
Wednesday renewed their focus on abortion and gay marriage under Pope
Francis.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops voted to make
only limited revisions to a guide they publish every presidential
election year on church teaching, voting and public policy. The bishops
also reaffirmed their fight for broader religious exemptions to laws
recognizing gay marriage and a requirement in the Affordable Care Act
that employers provide health insurance covering birth control.
Francis has said the church has been alienating Catholics by focusing more on divisive social issues than on mercy and compassion. [Really? Did he really say that and has He, His Holiness Himself, not spoken about the crime of abortion, the need for children to have a father and a mother and the problems facing marriage?]
The bishops' document on political responsibility, titled "Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship," has been published every four years since 1976, and has become a point of contention within the church over which issues voters should consider most important: abortion or social justice. The bishops voted Wednesday to incorporate Francis' teachings into the document, but rejected a complete rewrite in favor of limited changes instead. [Since when has abortion not been the number one social issue in our country, the taking of innocent human life that makes all the school shooting in this country look like child's play?]
"The question of abortion will remain as very important," said Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, Texas, after the vote at the national assembly in New Orleans. "There are pillars to the house and it is one of the pillars."
The bishops also voted to renew their committee on religious liberty, which has led their campaign for broader protection for religious charities and for individual business owners with religious objections to birth control, same-sex marriage and other issues.
Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the bishops' religious liberty committee, compared the effort to the anti-abortion movement, which started small in the 1960s and grew to have great influence in later decades.
"It's a major task on a generational scale," Lori told the bishops.
In their presentations, the bishops noted the tide of court decisions in recent months in favor of same-sex marriage, but said religious conservatives should not give up. Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philadelphia said "being discouraged would be the worst thing that we could do."
MY FINAL COMMENTS: Overall this news article is straight forward. The headline is the lie and it is deceptive and those Catholics who read it come from two sources, progressives who will think that it is true and they rejoice they have a Pope who agrees with them and bishops who disobey the pope.
Then there are those, like some who read this blog, who will think that the headline is true, the pope is on the side of the progressives and against the bishops who are in union with him, especially the "synodality" of the American Bishops meeting in conference. This attitude by neo-traditionalists aids and assists the enemies of the Church who through headlines like the one above are trying to divide and conquer the Catholic Church in much the same way as President Obama has done with his political ideologies and acumen especially at Notre Dame University and on other Catholic campuses.
Keep in mind that Pope Francis is promoting less micro managing of bishops and he is asking bishops to manage their dioceses properly as he is trying to manage the curia and reform what is corrupt, the Vatican Bank the biggest of the biggest in terms of corruption and corrupt now for decades.
He is also trying to get the Curia to work together as bishops should be doing and are doing in this country especially with their renewed agenda.
And here is another case of the media, even the Catholic media, misreporting and intentionally so to divide and conquer Catholics. It has to do with Archbishop Carlson who is quoted as saying he did not know it was a crime for a priest to molest a minor--that was a lie too and I believed it at first. But it was a lie; it was partial reporting of a much longer disposition!

ARCHBISHOP CARLSON HAS BEEN FRAMED
According to attorney Jeffrey Anderson, as well as Commonweal,
and other media outlets, the transcript of the exchange between
Anderson and Archbishop Carlson reveals that the archbishop did not know
it was a crime for an adult to have sex with a child. They are all
wrong.
Prior to the controversial exchange
(which began with a question regarding mandatory reporting laws—see pp.
108-09 of the transcript), Anderson asked Carlson several questions
about Tom Adamson (a homosexual priest who had sex with teenage males).
Carlson said, “I remember he was accused of sexual abuse. That’s the
trial I participated in.” (See p. 34.) Having said as much, it is simply
impossible to believe that Carlson did not know it was against the law
for an adult to have sex with a minor.
Anderson also asked, “And you also knew
when first degree criminal sexual conduct is written and recorded, that
is the most serious of the sex crimes against a child. You know that?”
To which Carlson said, “Correct.” (See pp. 98-99.) This is further proof
that Carlson knew what the law was; this was also said prior to the
controversial exchange.
After the exchange in question, Anderson
asks Carlson, “But you knew a priest touching the genitals of a kid to
be a crime; did you not?” Carlson answered, “Yes.” (See p. 145.)
Further exculpatory proof can be found
on pp. 17, 23, 34, 74, 113, 114, 115, and 132. On eight different
occasions Carlson restated to Anderson that he told relatives of the
victims to go to the police. He wouldn’t have done so unless he knew a
crime may have been committed.
All of this is available online. But a
combination of malice, ignorance, and laziness (depending on the source)
prevents the truth from being told. Quite frankly, Archbishop Carlson
has been framed.
