Bishop Athanasius Schneider, could he be the a pope from Astana, Kazakhstan one day? How cool would that be? Pray, pray, pray!
This interview with Bishop Schneider on EWTN is at the beginning of the show. He looks very papal and from a third world country no less. He thus has perfect credentials to be pope but great academic and pastoral abilities too.

I simply couldn't dare to entertain the hope.
Father,
I was thinking the same thing just the other day!
"He looks very papal"...yep...I checked again and you REALLY said that. I feel sure that you just forgot the "LOL" part.
Most of the people on EWTN give me a mild to medium case of the creeps.
I think Kazakhstan was technically "Second World" at the time of his birth.
Next pope but one, perhaps. He has friends in high places. Meanwhile the Asians or Africans will be given a chance. Step forward, Cardinal Ranjith.
Well, we can hope...He'd be a good one
Since his baptismal name is "Athanasius", perhaps he would choose "Irenaeus" as his regnal name?
:-)
Gaudete in Domino Semper!
Whoops! A correction! ("Mea, cupla!")
His religious-profession name in the Canons regular is "Athanasius", his baptismal name is Anthony.
"Mah bad!", as folks say these days.
Gaudete in Domino Semper!
You expect us to believe that the same bunch that elected Francis would then turn around and elect a refined, articulate, thoughtful, 100% solid orthodox Catholic who doesn't care what the world thinks of him. Really. You expect people like Wuerl, Dolan, O'Malley, all of the Italians, you think that bunch would elect someone who would actually do something about the self destruction that has been going on for the last 50 years? Dream on Father dream on. Yahhhhh and does your crystal ball still tell you that Francis is going to celebrate the tridentine Mass? Dreaming nice but not when everything is in a ruin and it's not getting better but worse.
Schneider is a little young (although he looks older than his age)to be the next pope (and he's not a cardinal yet). Ranjith ("Benedict XVII") would be the best pick to follow Francis, then Schneider ("Leo XIV") after him, and Guido Marini ("Pius XIII") after him. This is my Nostrodomus list.
Dan Z,
It would indeed be a blessing for the Church to see your "Nostradamus List" fulfilled! I like the list of names as well!
Anonymous,
What does "yah" mean? I'm assuming it's a Northern expression.
As for dreaming, it's good to encourage dedicated, optimistic men like Father McDonald to hope for the best. Indeed, hope is one of the theological virtues, and we all do well to cultivate the gift of hope within us. Pessimism and hopelessness are anti-virtues, the promotion of which on blogs and elsewhere is unlikely to please the Lord.
