THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION DIGS IN DEEPER TO DESTROY RELIGIOUS LIBERTY AND FREEDOM OF CONSCIENCE! DO THEY REALLY THINK WE'RE THAT STUPID AS CATHOLICS? THAT TELLS YOU A GREAT DEAL WITH WHAT WE ARE UP AGAINST

White House denies health-care mandate violates Catholic consciences

February 01, 2012

The White House has denied that requiring contraceptive coverage in health-care plans poses a threat to religious liberty.

Jay Carney, the White House press secretary, told reporters at a January 31 briefing that the administration’s new regulation does not give rise to any “constitutional rights issues.” He said:

The administration believes that this proposal strikes the appropriate balance between respecting religious beliefs and increasing access to important preventative services.

Most of the Catholic bishops in the US have expressed their public disagreement with the Obama administration’s position, condemning the new mandate as an offense against religious freedom and the rights of conscience.

MY COMMENT: More than expressing public disagreement with the Obama administration, some bishops are advocating outright civil disobedience.

To your question:Yes. Do we give them a reason to doubt it?

Wait for same sex marriage and female ordination laws. It's coming.

I'm glad Obama is an expert in Catholic moral theology now. What a relief! This guy is so brazen - dictating to us what violates our religious principles. This is really just dumbfounding.

Before we engage in civil disobedience, we need to ramp up the prayer and fasting and offer mortifications for our bishops/priests/political leaders.

I hope to hear more homilies on this as unfortunately not everyone reads your blog, Father. Please know you have my family's support and prayers in making a bold statement to your flock about this.

I accidentally deleted Joe Johnson's comment, so here's a copy of it:

Joseph Johnson has left a new comment on your post "THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION DIGS IN DEEPER TO DESTROY...":

Civil disobedience will likely form the basis, or standing, for a Constitutional challenge to this unjust law. It's just a matter of time.

Father, there should be no need for civil disobedience. The president is clearly outside of constitutional bounds, and Congress should take action. Impeachment, repeal of Obamacare, there are ample means provided within the Constitution.

If they wait for civil disobedience, then our politicians will have made abundantly clear that they are in dire need of replacement, as they lack principles and the courage to act on them.

Pope Blessed Urban II where are you now?

I keep seeing "Most of the Catholic bishops" express concern. Why not ALL Catholic bishops?

According to CatholicVote.org, 135 out of 195 Dioceses (of which only 187 have sitting Bishops) have responded to the HHS with a written statement, that's roughly 70% (and a marginally passing grade in any public school).

Of the 135 who have released statements, only 63 have directed their Priests to read the statements from the Pulpit.

Compared to the usualy silence from the Episcopate it's an improvement, but still not nearly enough. Lead Bishops Lead!! Or get the hell out of the way.
