OKAY, THIS IS A CHILDREN'S MASS WITH A CLEVER, FUNNY HOMILY THAT CHILDREN WOULD LIKE, BUTWILL THEY HAVE AWE AND WONDER FOR THE MASS AS ADULTS?

Well, I don't like this sort of homiletic nonsense, but this case is hardly at the top of the list of irreverent Masses.

Why not show the children what the "True Mass of All Times" is like instead of the side show?
Enough already of this outdated 70's material, prepare the children for the real world with the REAL MASS!! Pope Benedict the XVI gave it back to us start using it!!!

Those priests should be laicized and those people should formally become the Protestants they really are. The Mass is the representation of Calvary made present and the priest is playing football on the slopes of Calvary. But I bet, I'm just thinking that maybe, just maybe, Father Football wouldn't be so nice if any of those people knelt for communion. And I'm thinking, just a possibility, if one of those people dared to express their dismay to Father about his actions, I'm thinking Father would have no problem telling them exactly what they could do with their concerns.

Just another example of the stupidity of modernism. Could anyone even imagine this happening at a Tridentine Mass? Oh sorry, the liturgical reforms of Vatican II have been a success. Sorry I forgot. The Church has never been better off than today. I forgot it's the new springtime. That's it the new springtime. This clip shows that God gave us the pope we deserve. We deserve what we are enduring because of silly stupid priests. And the bishop will do nothing of course. But I bet if the SSPX moved into his diocese there would be a problem.

Anonymous, please, how do you think typical Catholic school parents would react to a priest celebrating the old rite of Mass with their children?

Fr. Michael J. Kavanaugh said...

The children are participating in the "True Mass of All Times." It is as "real" as any Mass, EF, Eastern rite, OF, or otherwise.

There is a heretic troll posting on this site who is taking the name of a priest (Fr Michael J Kavanaugh) who I know to be orthodox and in good standing. It may be wise to take down the offending posts before the priest in question sues for defamation.

It is pure junk liturgy, junk worship, junk theology. This is just the kind of garbage that is destroying the Church.

Clericalism? Narcissism? Lack of faith?

Whatever, children are capable of deep spiritual reflection. It is insulting to them to patronize them in such silly ways.

Lay people are not the only ones in need of re-catechization.

When I was 10 I could chant 5 Latin Ordinaries by heart. Kids today are just as smart (or smarter), but unfortunately, left-wing loon clergy will not accept that because the Liturgy is "all about them" rather than the Faithful.

They forget that angels come down from heaven and fill the sanctuary to adore Christ. How they must weep when they come to earth and see this!!!! When will this insanity end???

What Jacob said.
Our kids were in elementary parochial school in the late 80s. This went on to some extent, but not as flagrant...much smaller nave for one thing! The priest was very dynamic, kids loved him. He went on to be named Vicar General. By the time kids were in high school he was married and laicized (The priest who had baptized them had likewise named Vicar General, then later married). They were truly saddened--Then the priest abuse scandal broke while our youngest son was in college. He is now a 30-something None. We tried many times to enlist priestly help, but all were "too busy" to help a kid now in college out of town. And our parish was preoccupied with problems: a stream of four priests within six years didn't help. Not trying to cast blame (there is plenty to go around, but does no good). Just painting a family picture...
If you would be so kind, please pray for Timothy. Thank you.

Jacob, we have not hit rock bottom yet. It will get worse before it gets better...if it ever gets better. I see they are scalping tickets to see the Pope for three-thousand dollars. I'm sorry, but I would not go to see this Pope if he was right across the street and they paid me.

Where did this take place? Have those priests been suspended?

Jdj- praying for Timothy and for your entire family.

Anonymous,

"Have those priests been suspended?" Is that a serious question?

Jdj said...

Carol H,
Thanks so much, and Blessings!!! You've no idea how much that is needed and appreciated especially right now.

The problem isn't the priest's message; it's fine. I don't care about the football throwing.

It's the setting.

For heaven's sake, Father, why not gather the kids on the playfield, and give that talk there?

Oh man! Just seeing them throwing the ball back and forth was so highly offensive to me I could hardly watch. Couldn't Father have met the kids in a school assembly and given his message? Why in church?
My brothers and I grew up in the 60's and 70's. The oldest of us had pre-Vatican II liturgies and catechism, our youngest brother got next to nothing of a true catechism. Guess which of us are still attending Mass and living according to Church teachings? It isn't my youngest brother.

Yesterday my older brother was remarking about a project that he was involved in that went remarkably well, given all that could have gone wrong. As we were marveling at how well it all went, he acknowledged God was responsible for the success and almost miraculous smoothness of the project. Hearing this my youngest brother laughed and scoffed, cynically chiding him for such a statement, as if God had nothing to do with it. I'm sure my younger brother heard many such "homilies" and attended many such Masses as the one in the video. Why stay when the entertainment is so much better outside of Church, without all the moralizing? After all, life is not about God. It's about you, right? Even the liberal Church says so.

Over course these priests have not been suspended for liturgical abuse! They're LIBERAL! Liberals getaway with EVERYTHING!!! That's any institution, even in the Church these last 50+ years of crisis!

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

I have a disclaimer, in my first five years as a priest in Albany, GA, St. Teresa's, which had an elementary school, I was the king of gimmicks for children's homilies at school Masses. The kids loved them and their parents too. Oh, how I would love to hear from those kids today as to how this either formed or deformed them in the Catholic faith. Do I need to be sainted or vilified? I don't know to be honest with you. I was a part of the problem back then, not the solution. I was a product of my liberal seminary.

But with that said, I do think for children's Masses, simplicity is the answer, but we don't need to entertain, although a prop might be used to make an unbelabored point.
