The German synodal way is veering off into schism. It is far more offensive and divisive than any of the rhetoric of traditionalists who prefer the Extraordinary Form of the Liturgy Books and the way the Church once was.
Thus far, Pope Francis has slapped the German synodal initiative on the hand for proposing heretical and schismatic proposals. Keep in mind, cardinals and bishops are involved in this, not just some laity and a few priests in the Extraordinary Mass movement.
Of course there needs to be a Custodius Traditionis for the schismatic German synodal way and its schismatic proposals with the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith adding an iron fist to it with a number of contrived dubia to answer all the wrongs that the synodal way in Germany has proposed. But alas…
But, we have the German study of the sexual abuse that has occurred in Germany since the 1950’s. Pope Benedict as Cardinal Archbishop of Munich in the early 70’s is faulted for the inadequate manner in which he dealt with four clerics. As well the current Cardinal Archbishop Karl Marx is also faulted in his current ministry with inadequate handling of some clerics.
Yet the venom is reserved for an aging 95 year pope emeritus and a fault in his memory about being at a meeting or not. Why???
I suspect, as I am a suspicious person, that progressive Germans must cancel Pope Benedict’s entire papacy, entire ministry as a priest, archbishop, cardinal, pope and emeritus pope in order to break with traditional Catholicism and Benedict’s Magisterium, well documented in authoritative teachings, of reform in continuity not in rupture.
Let’s name all of this for what it is. I am suspicious of most German progressive Catholics, clergy and laity and what they want to do to the Church, which Pope Benedict valiantly fought for decades as well as Pope St. John Paul II.
There is no bishop of the generation of Pope Benedict and Pope Francis who under scrutiny for past actions in the abuse scandal who can escape without the taint of mishandling this, that and the other. The only way forward is authentic forgiveness and renewal in continuity, not creating a new or a different Church. We need the Church Christ founded and has guided personally for the last 2000 years. We don’t need another Church that is some kind of ideological utopia!

The German Church is definitely not one to listen to at this point. I went to Mass on Sunday in Munich several years ago and at the Frauenkirche there were maybe two dozen in the congregation. Even by US standards that was absolutely pathetic. State money is keeping the Church alive in Germany
I disagree with nothing that you have written and will therefore not parrot it in this combox. Spot on.
Two words suffice to tell us all we need to know about the pedigree of the Church in Germany:
Martin Luther.
