Celibacy, the evangelical promise not to enter an earthly marriage, is a wonderful sign of the Kingdom of God. The evangelical value is evident enough in the perpetual interest in it shown by the news media.
Blaming bishops for their ineffective protection of children from predatory priests makes sense. Associating child-molestation specifically with the priesthood does not.
Marriage is equally a wonderful sign of the kingdom of God. Inasmuch as it includes the complementarity of man and woman, echoing the covenantal relationship of God and the People of God, it may be a better sign than celibacy...
