Very interesting is the large proportion from France. Traditional Catholicism has been on the increase in that country for some time, despite the best efforts of most of the French bishops since the 1970s to suppress it. They are quite happy to have empty seminaries and dwindling congregations so long as the 'spirit of Vatican II' is preserved.
Yet we see Catholics taking to the streets and having to be dispersed by riot police. When did that happen in the US or UK? Whether you like it or not, the SSPX is very much part of orthodox mainstream Catholicism, along with other movements like the FSSP which figure large in France, not to mention the revival in traditional monasticism.
And stop calling the SSPX 'schismatic'. Both JP II and B XVI recognized it as an internal problem, and schismatics are by definition external to the Church. The issues they have with V2 are as nothing compared with the LCWR, 'nuns on the bus', 'Call to Action' and other dissident groups that are treated with kid gloves despite the fact that there is virtually nothing in Lumen Gentium, the CCC or the Universal and Ordinary Magisterium which they would adhere to.
