A vernacular Mass, but apart from the Responsorial Psalm, all the music was Latin and traditional, with chant predominating, and shared between the choir and the assembly. Is there any reason why any parish should not be familiar with Mass XVIII (weekdays in Advent and Lent), the Lent prose Attende Domine, the plainchant Ave Verum Corpus and the simple Ave Regina Caelorum? Would it be out of the question to ask people to join in the Litany of the Saints? The opening hymn Audi Benigne Conditor might not have been familiar, but most people with the notes in front of them could give it a go.
