Pope Francis celebrates Mass in a very, very typical Roman parish today at the parish Church, "Santa maria dell'Orazione di Setteville di Guidonia." This type of music is quite common in Rome and throughout the world. The question is how to move from this to the organ and more classical sounding Catholic chant and motets? But the populous seems to like this and won't budge. But overall the liturgy and this modern church building are very nice and builds up the faith rather than tears it down.
Also Pope Francis art of celebrating the Mass must be recommended for priests throughout the world. If most would follow his lead in his style and spirituality of celebrating Mass (facing the people in an ad orientem sort of way) our liturgies would be greatly improved!

Did he conjure up the living Devil? I heard his name is really Roman Castavet.
Yes, the music is banal, repetitive and devoid of any artistic merit. Are the populace really so enamoured of it or are they merely inured to it? As you say, this style is so widespread and so opposed to the true spirit of liturgical music it is difficult to see how the situation can be turned round.
C’mon anonymous!
You know Roman Castavet is an anagram for Adrian Marcato.
I looked for Ruth Gordon, Hope Summers, and Pasty Kelly in the crowd but missed them. At least I didn't hear a recorder or see this Holy Father in Mia Farrow's dream.
I think the point is not that the music should sound more classical but that the words should be liturgical. To be fully formed for mission by the liturgical encounter with Christ, we need to be nourished by the word of God which the Church hands on to us, His people, in the context not only of the longer scripture readings, but also the introit, offertory, gradual, communion verse and the like.
