MONEY BYTE:
Mercy was preached, and priests were suspended a divinis even before the substance of the accusations had been verified, simply in order to feed the media with a guilty party to exhibit. Synodality was celebrated, and those who dared to raise legitimate questions about incomprehensible texts such as In Ecclesiarum Communione were dispatched with a one-way ticket. Poverty was preached, and enormous sums were spent on the whims of the new image: wardrobes redone in order to appear more humble, the abandonment of the Apostolic Palace in favour of a Santa Marta refurbished to measure, the Palace of Castel Gandolfo abandoned and then reopened as a museum attraction; and all the while the Dicastery for Communication was allowed to turn the face of the Pontiff into merchandise. The welcome of those who had gone astray and were “far away” was celebrated, and yet those who were “near” were dealt with mercilessly through commissariamenti and suspensions that bore the marks of a harshness that had nothing paternal about it. Clericalism was thundered against, and personal friends such as Marko Ivan Rupnik were protected, while the alleged victims waited for justice. There was talk of “opening up to women”, and behind closed doors it was said that “gossip is women’s stuff”, only then to stigmatise - with a lexical choice that speaks for itself - the “frociaggine” in seminaries. A veritable worm at the heart of Jorge Mario Bergoglio.

Today from the vicious anti-Pope Francis (requiescat in pace) blogger who runs Silere non possum:
"When Benedict XVI died...it was Bergoglio himself who raised hell to ensure that the funeral was not celebrated “as if he were a Pope”...And when Francis went up to the altar for the homily, the name Joseph Ratzinger was spoken only once. Once. A brevity that was not sobriety: it was deliberate."

The WSJ bemoaned the terse reference to +Pope Benedict in the homily. I think instead the Pope understood who and what the Mass is about and kept the references properly proportioned.

Even Pope Francis hater, New Catholic (Rorate Caeli), rejected the following:
Rod Dreher
@roddreher
"Appalling homily by Pope Francis at #BenedictXVI funeral! What a disgraceful act. A sign of immense disrespect."

Rorate Caeli's response:
@RorateCaeli
"It seemed to us a very good and appropriate homily, short and with several mentions to the deceased’s documents, and, indirectly, to his virtues.
"Criticism where criticism is due, this is certainly not the case."

In regard to that which constitutes an accurate reading of Pope Francis (requiescat in pace):
I will rely upon Pope Leo XIV's comments in question, rather than the vicious, anti-Pope Francis (requiscant in pace) hater who runs Silere non possum.
MESSAGE FROM HIS HOLINESS POPE LEO...ON THE 1ST ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF POPE FRANCIS
https://www.vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/en/messages/pont-messages/2026/documents/20260412-messaggio-anniversario-papafrancesco.html
Excerpts:
"On the first anniversary of the death of our beloved Pope Francis, his memory lives on in the Church and throughout the world.
"...I join in spirit with all those who will gather in the Liberian Basilica to offer the Eucharistic Sacrifice in memory of my Predecessor."
"Death is not a wall, but a door that opens out onto the Mercy that Pope Francis tirelessly proclaimed.
"He was the Successor of Peter and Shepherd of the universal Church...offering all of us a courageous witness that represents a significant legacy for the Church.
"His teaching was lived as a missionary disciple as he liked to say.
"He remained a disciple of the Lord, faithful to his Baptism and to his consecration in the episcopal ministry, to the very end.
"The good that came from his witness as a caring Shepherd touched the hearts of so many people, even to the ends of the earth, thanks also to his apostolic pilgrimages and especially to that final “journey” of his illness and his death.
"In harmony with his predecessors, he took up the legacy of the Second Vatican Council and urged the Church to be open to mission, a guardian of the world’s hope, passionate about proclaiming that Gospel which is capable of giving every life fulfilment and happiness.
"We still hear his exhortations, expressed in eloquent words, to make the Good News more accessible: mercy, peace, brotherhood, the odor of the sheep, the field hospital and many others.
"Each of these expressions leads us back to the Gospel he lived out in a new language that proclaims the same Gospel as always.
"Pope Francis nurtured a deep devotion to Mary throughout his life;...May the Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, help us to be, in every circumstance, tireless apostles of her divine Son and prophets of His merciful love.
Pax.
