ANOTHER EXAMPLE, AND DONE VERY QUICKLY, OF POPE LEO REVERSING POPE FRANCIS’ LITURGICAL MANDATE!

This just happened on July 7th, the anniversary of Summorum Pontificum.

I write more about this below this new and somewhat redundant post. But Pope Leo has acted and quickly so to restore unity to the Syro-Malabar Eastern Rite Church.

Is this the blueprint to placate traditionalists upset with Pope Francis’ harsh and rigid Traditionis Custodes? And also with bishops who are harsh and rigid with Novus Ordo celebrations ad orientem and kneeling for Holy Communion at the altar railing?

This sounds good to me:

Under the terms of the new agreement, (approved by Pope Leo XIV) priests will be permitted to celebrate a Sunday liturgy facing the people as long as they also offer a Sunday liturgy ad orientem. In addition, newly ordained priests will be permitted to offer the liturgy facing the people; recently, they have been required to pledge, as a condition for ordination. not to offer the liturgy facing the people. Finally, several officials of the archeparchy will be replaced.

It is apparent to me that God has gifted us with a tremendous Roman Pontiff in His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV. That is among the reasons why I am unable to relate to the negativity that various right-wingers have directed at His Holiness.

The SSPX has identified Pope Leo XIV as a false teacher.

In regard to Pope Leo XIV: John-Henry Westen, who is out at LifeSiteNews, declared a few days ago: "Lay leaders tell me: they’re watching his next moves very closely. Vestments soothe, but appointments alarm."

Verbal attacks against Pope Leo XIV flow around-the-clock on numerous right-wing/"trad" Internet, X, sites.

It is a shame that certain folks are unable to appreciate the wonderful holy man we have in Pope Leo XIV.

Pax.

What bishops are leading the way. As with the Syro-Malabar rite it is the heterodox left, including a huge number of clergy, some bishops creating the violent reactions to Pope Francis’ rigidity in terms of saying absolutely no to Mass facing the people. The heterodox left is the greatest problem in the Latin Rite. Perhaps you have forgotten how they, lay and priest treated Pope Benedict.

Hopefully we see silly mandates like the one above (yet another bishop, this time the notorious progressive and Twitter blowhard Abp. Gustavo-Siller, banning distribution of Communion at altar rails) reversed, as well.

This is hardly noteworthy. I shudder to think of what it would take for you to think otherwise of a pope.

As a general onservation, it is far too early to tell about the direction of any papacy this early.

As an Eastern Catholic (Melkite), any concession to the old days of Latinization is not healthy, not to mention counter to the express decree at Vatican II and all the many statements by various popes exhorting both Latins and Eastern Catholics to respect the ancient traditions of the East. Rest assured, the East has Latinizers in every church, and this concession strengthens them.

Thanks for your comment from an Eastern point of view. The Pillar has been at the forefront of describing what is happening in one jurisdiction of the Syro-Malabar Church. I found it absolutely fascinating that Pope Francis was very much supportive of a “uniform” Liturgy in terms of the “exclusive” ad orientem position for the Liturgy of the Eucharist but facing the congregation for the Liturgy of the Word. Oh that this be the official position of the Vatican for the Novus Ordo. But, facing the nave was allowed for many years in this particular Eastern eparchy. To take it away without some allowance was a “rigid” mistake. What Pope Leo has supported is making ad orientem the norm and facing the congregation the exception and that the two for now must coexist.

If only Pope Leo would do this for the Latin Rite, while also encouraging a return to Summorum Pontificum.
