DEVASTATION THROUGHOUT FLORIDA, GEORGIA AND FURTHER

Many have died and more are to be counted due to Hurricane Helene. In my Diocese of Savannah, Valdosta, Georgia has been devastated.

Please pray for all the victims and for a quick recovery!

My hometown of Augusta has been devastated. No one in my Diocese of Savannah has ever seen something like this.

Augusta is 140 miles from the Georgia coast and over 300 miles from the Gulf coast from where this hurricane arrived.

Here are photos behind my sister’s home in Augusta:

Other photos from around Augusta today, Friday 27th:

I graduated from here in 1976, then known as Augusta College and today as Augusta Univerity:

Waffle Houses use to not have locks on their doors as they never close and stay open during catastrophes like hurricanes:

This is down the road where my mom lived:

Praying for y'all. A friend of ours sent around photos from near Atlanta where firefighters took over twelve hours to extinguish a house fire started by lightning. Crazy the things a hurricane can kick off.

Absolutely incredible damage and so far from the actual storm's landfall

Father McDonald,

May God grant peace and comfort to you, your sister, and each person who had been impacted by Hurricane Helene.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — As Hurricane Helene brings devastating, life-threatening conditions to communities across the Southeast, Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA), the official domestic relief agency of the Catholic Church in the U.S., has launched a dedicated disaster relief donation campaign. All funds raised will assist those displaced or suffering because of the storm.

To make a gift today in support of families and individuals whose lives have been upended by Hurricane Helene, please visit the CCUSA Hurricane Helene relief donation page.

One hundred percent of all donations will be allocated to local Catholic Charities agencies, which will provide critical relief — including shelter, food and other humanitarian aid — to members of their communities. Gifts can also be made by texting “Hurricane” to 20406.

Many, many Prayers were, are and will be offered up for all the dear people who suffered so grievously in our State and in all the other States in Helene's path! May the souls of all those who so tragically lost their lives and all the souls of the Faithful departed RIP, Amen! And may God Himself comfort those grieving the loss of their loved ones and those suffering from injuries and property damage so severe, that the impact will be felt for a very long time!
I can imagine that this has affected you in a very personal way Father, having grown up there but more importantly having your beloved Sister in the midst of it, especially since you lost your dear brother so recently! I am so glad she was not hurt!
Those photos really painted a grim picture of the devastation!
