A TEMPEST IN A GAY TEA POT???????????????????????????/

I don't want to get into the back story, but an article by a Catholic News Service writer (CNS is owned by EWTN/National Catholic Register) indicated that Pope Francis was/is really angry with gay activist Jesuit priest, James Martin for Martin's use of the pope's meeting with him to push the gay agenda in the Church as it has done in secular society and rather successfully.

Archbishop Wester of Santa Fe, who was in the meeting where it is alleged by "sources" (bishops) that the pope was really mad, disputes this.

Here is a rebuttal by the author of the original CNS news story about a mad pope:

Santa Fe Archbishop Weighs in on Papal Discussion of Fr. James Martin

Archbishop Wester said bishops raised to the pope questions about a recent speech Fr. Martin delivered to the presidents of Catholic universities, “and his work in general with the LGBT community.”

VATICAN CITY — Archbishop John Wester of Santa Fe has offered his recollections of a meeting between Pope Francis and the American Southwest, especially as regards a discussion during the meeting of Jesuit Fr. James Martin.

CNA reported Feb. 20 that Fr. Martin was discussed during a Feb. 10 meeting between the pope and bishops of the USCCB’s Region XIII, who were with the pope as part of their ad limina visit.

Fr. Martin, an American Jesuit, is well known for his writing and speaking on LGBT issues and the Church. His work has been a subject of controversy; it is criticized by some bishops and praised by others.

Archbishop Wester confirmed that Fr. Martin and his Sept. 30 visit to the pope had been discussed in the meeting, in a Feb. 21 commentary published by the National Catholic Reporter.

The Santa Fe archbishop, who was appointed to his post in 2015, is one of seven U.S. bishops to have endorsed “Building a Bridge,” Fr. Martin’s 2017 book on the Church and homosexuality.

All smiles and encouragement in a private meeting. Then frowns of 'anger' in another private meeting. So I'm thinking that this means Fr James is going to get a promotion at the Vatican.

Speaking of gay bishops, when does the McCarrick report come out? was Francis visibly upset about that?

Doubt you will hear of Bergoglio contradicting the contradiction...

The archbishop, of course, cares not if it shows only upper level churchmen cannot be trusted, as SOMEbody is lying, no doubt. He has an agenda to support, and the cost to credibility is only collateral damage.

Right-wing twitter/blogger folks produce negative commentaries around-the-clock in regard to "heretical" Father James Martin.

I have not paid via twitter a great deal of attention to Father Martin's postings.

However, the tweets of Father Martin's that I have read have been orthodox.

I understand that he has established a ministry that, in many ways, has proved valuable to Holy Mother Church.

He brings Jesus Christ to many people who have felt shunned by certain folks within and without the Church. As to whether said folks have been shunned, or have imagined that they've been shunned, is debatable.

I disagree with the notion promoted by Father Martin that homosexuals have not been welcomed at Mass...or at parishes.

That is, should a homosexual wish to assist at Holy Mass, I don't believe that said person is stopped at the door..."Are you a homosexual? If you are, then you may not assist at Mass. go away."

But Father Martin, as well as many homosexuals, claim otherwise.

Anyway, as far as I know, Father Martin is in good standing with Holy Mother Church. He asks that we see the face of Jesus Christ in each person we encounter.

In that very important way, Father Martin is a man of peace.

His Holiness Pope Francis' approach to dealing with homosexuals is the Catholic approach.

While we must treat each person with kindness, Pope Francis has distinguished between the Culture of Death, anti-Catholic, homosexual lobby, and the homosexual of good will.

Pope Francis condemned the homosexual lobby. He has exhorted us to resist homosexual pressure groups.

As to the homosexual person of good will: The person who, as Pope Francis noted, has sought the Lord, confessed, and is determined to change his/her life, then God is with said person.

Who am I to judge said person?

I hope that Father Martin adheres to Pope Francis' holy manner in which to deal with homosexuals.

Mark Thomas, I must admit that I cannot remember a specific call from Francis to actually CHANGE his/her life. He certainly doesn't ask the stoppage/change of sexual activity for divorced and remarried in AL. Seems like he would be worried about singling out homosexuals and suggesting chastity.

Francis' line seems to be 'just do the best you can, and even sin can be 'god-approved.''

Pope Francis has declared time and again that a sinner is called to convert to the Lord.

Pope Francis has promoted Confession, followed by a change in lifestyle...go and sin mo more.

During his famous 2013 A.D. "who am I to judge" declaration, noted that a homosexual is called to seek the Lord, Confess, then convert.

Dan, Pope Francis said in 2019 A.D. that following our commitment not to sin in the future, “every conversion is directed to a new future, to a new life, a beautiful life, a life free from sin, a generous life.”

Dan, Pope Francis has exhorted us to confess to the Lord our sins. Pope Francis has made it clear that we are then to change our lifestyle. We are to go and sin no more.
