JUST WHAT IS PRE-VATICAN II AS IT CONCERNS THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS

I was ordained a deacon in 1979 and priest in 1980. Back in the olden days, you were sooo pre-Vatican II, even though you did not celebrate the TLM or the other sacraments in the pre-Vatican II form if:

1. You wore traditional Roman Vestments at the Modern Mass

2. You used some Latin or mostly Latin in the Modern Mass.

3. You chanted the priestly parts of the vernacular Modern Mass.

4. You used bells and incense in the Modern Mass

5. You did not allow lay lectors and extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at the Modern Mass.

6. You demanded silence before and after Mass in the nave of the church.

7. You preached during the homily about Catholic doctrine and dogma at Mass

8. Your elevations were too long, too high and too solemn.

9. You put your prayerfully and traditionally folded hands on the altar at various points in the Mass and bowed too low with elbows on the altar to consecrate the Bread and Wine.

10. You believe in Transubstantiation.

Thanks be to God, since 2007 until TC, you were soooo pre-Vatican II if you preferred the Extraordinary Form of the Mass.

However, if Pope Francis and the rigid Cardinal Roche have their way and are able to suppress the sooo Pre-Vatican II Mass once and for all, will the 10 you are sooo pre-Vatican II examples once again be hurled against priests and communities that do these things in the Modern Mass???????

The Pope and his Roche have already lost the War. My 32 year old pastor continues to celebrate the TLM and his Novus Ordo masses have the look and feel of the TLM. Young priests don’t care what these rigid geriatrics think. They do what the documents allow. Fortunately most bishops are more generous and charitable than the Pope and his Roche

The Church in the photos is in the Archdiocese of New York and the TLM is celebrated there. Cardinal Dolan continues to be generous

Pope Francis/Roche might try to supress however, as easily as PF nullified SP, that's how easily a successor could nullify TC and any subsequent "legislation". See what PF started? Easy peasy.

Additionally, I can't see how realistically, the TLM genie would go back into its bottle without schism somewhere. Big picture, why would you want to put it back in? This might be a passion of PF and his magic circle, however, once off to his heavenly reward, I would think most successors will have much bigger fish to fry in a much more merciful way as they try to "rebuild the Church".

ByzRus,

Well said. I could see the Roche, if the next pontiff is supportive of the TLM and tradition, reversing course. Careerists do that!
