As old as it is, it also has likely been through the Spanish American War, and certainly a Japanese invasion of the Phillipines, where perhaps funds had been lacking to restore to former looks. This is apparently the final step in a major restoration of entire building started back in the early 2000s.

No doubt the second photo is wonderful, but frankly, I have been so conditioned to mediocrity in church art & architecture that even the first one seems better to me than most churches we've been conditioned to accept.

What an incredible transformation. Sheer beauty. The parish must have had a very generous budget to accomplish this!

'Before' has one altar; 'After' appears to have three, each in front of the other. Can someone explain?

After is ugly ostentatious display of gold!!
