I have chosen this blog to deconstruct for an assignment I am completing in a gender studies college course.
It took me some time online to find a blog that is such a classic case and example of white, western, conservative, Christian males having zero insight into how their discourses (ie how they talk about things) are maintaining and promoting the white supremacy and patriarchy that still flourishes in the USA. Endlessly her a Woke person can detect language upholding unjust power structures; white male oppressors perpetuating their privilege and “power-knowledge” through discourse. I despair of anyone on this blog ever being able to grasp how their narratives, their discourse, justify the oppression of women, people of colour and LGBT people, who each and all in their oppressed conditions have a deeper, superior and more authentic knowledge about life and society!! All the white, patriarchal ideological assertions on this blog are merely one way of knowing the world, and it is a way of knowing corrupted by power.

Regards,

Lucy Loisy.

Well, well, L. L. Welcome to my blog and may your soul be delivered from self-righteous judgementalism and all the stereotypes you have become. Perhaps the planks in our eyes will help you to remove yours.

Obviously, then, Father Kavanaugh cannot connect the dots - his voting preference proves it

Back to our regular programming; Good to see Fr. K getting on the front line.

The first poster brings up, I think with sarcastic intent, the infrequently mentioned link of oppression and devaluation of women required to support abortion. Womyn are ‘empowered’ to have the same moral views as adolescent boys to they can become sexual playthings that need to be periodically cleansed of the side effects of the sex act.

Lucy,

Your regurgitation of several key ideological assertions of applied postmodernism and intersectional feminism inspires me to ask you if the following are truths or contradictions:

All societies and cultures are good and deserving of respect but functioning western democracies are oppressive, destructive and bad.

All truth is relative but applied postmodernism tells people like it really is.

All values are subjective but sexism and racism and homophobia are really (ie objectively) bad.

Also, have you ever considered condemning the appalling levels of sexism and homophobia and racism that exists in many non white, non western and non Christian nations and cultures?

Finally, the Catholic Church has often over c. 1600 years held quite some power in different places and different eras; almost any other group holding such power for such a long period would have abused such power much more than Catholic leaders and Catholic people ever did.

Lucy--if you are a real person and your story is true (I can't help but suspect a prank),
I once was you. I bought ALL that stuff, hook line and sinker.

If you are truly as open as your alleged university purports to be, then you will at least listen to all sides before making any final decisions about your life.

I hate to break it to you, but patriarchy is part of the natural order. Took me a lot of wasted time and rebellion to figure that out.

I once looked down from my proverbial ivory tower as well. You presume to know us. You have a good deal to learn and I doubt your professors can impart it to you.

So did it take "Science" to convince Father K that life begins at conception or did he need it to confirm any doubts that he might have had about what the Church has been saying all along?

I'm going to guess we are all supposed to boo and hiss Fr K for not being Republican now. However, his supporting the pro-life movement is wholly consistent with his posting here and his political beliefs as he has presented them. Great to see Fr K supporting life.

One of the most pathetically simplistic caricatures that ever was is the caricature of white Christian males put forward by many western feminists.
Lucy, the world view you have embraced is very lacking in nuance and lacks any true understanding of the depth and complexity of humanity.
And, can't you see how problematic it is for anyone to overdo it in using one's identity - one's gender, racial or sexual orientation identity - as a source of knowledge? And how forming tribes around shared stories, and shared contrived narratives, can lead to dangerous irrationalism and dangerous tribalism?
Why not try to take on a habit of mind which thinks of truth as something outside yourself, and something to be discovered, and not as something you make up as you go along?

You are such a silly-billy.

Wow Lucy. That is quite a lexicon of liberal terminology. I don't think you left anything out. Good luck with that gender studies class. Hopefully you will learn that men are not the enemy; that Socialism is not the answer but is oppressive, murderous, and unjust; that it doesn't bring anybody up but brings everybody down, your teacher might not tell you that. Please try to look for the good in the West and not only the bad, one example, the development of Universities.

I think so many millions of young people in the West today have such a God shaped hole within them. They are looking for meaning in a meaningless world. They crave meaning and purpose and then the Left convinces so many young people that a political, leftist, secular crusade against racism and sexism and homophobia and so on can fill that gap and void within them.

Well this news will certainly make Mark Thomas' day:

Pope Francis endorsed same-sex civil unions for the first time as pontiff while being interviewed for the feature-length documentary "Francesco," which premiered Wednesday at the Rome Film Festival.

The papal thumbs-up came midway through the film that delves into issues Francis cares about most, including the environment, poverty, migration, racial and income inequality, and the people most affected by discrimination.

"Homosexual people have the right to be in a family. They are children of God," Francis said in one of his sit-down interviews for the film. "You can't kick someone out of a family, nor make their life miserable for this. What we have to have is a civil union law; that way they are legally covered."

If this is true, I think the schism is here and smart canon lawyers should be finding a way to depose PF.

Fr K,
You may already know this but it is good to remember that when you disagree with a view or views held by a pro choice feminist it can often not just be her views that you are disagreeing with but, as she sees it, you could also be disputing her reality.

Just because someone chooses to vote for the Biden-Harris ticket (as many prominent Republicans are choosing to do, by the way) does not mean they support abortion. It is quite possible to oppose abortion and work actively for its reduction/eradication, and still vote for the Democratic ticket when the dots lead to the swamp creature currently inhabiting the White House. Has anyone heard the chant “Drain the swamp” recently? No, I didn’t think so.

Trump mused that if he is not reelected, he may have to leave the country. Quite so. Moving his residence from New York to Florida may be insufficient to escape the long arm of the law that will surely seek to hold him accountable for his many alleged crimes after he is out of office.

If Lucy’s post is not a prank (and it may not be), I would urge her to continue her deconstructive inquiry but to do it in the spirit expressed by “former activist”: “at least listen to all sides before making any final decisions about your life,” recognizing that, yes, critical perspectives can help illuminate the truth but they are not the full story. It is always good to promote honest, fact-based, and truth-seeking dialogue with open minds on all sides.

100% agree with Anonymous 2 @ 3:39. Though my commenting is mostly limited to liturgy, I'm sure the conversation regarding other perhaps more sensitive matters would be interesting, if this is not a prank.

Anonymous 2,

I think the corrupt Biden’s may have far greater legal exposure than the president, but I know you routinely turn a blind eye to Democratic corruption, like Hillary’s pay to play scandal. Strange how the money is no longer flowing into her foundation now that she is out of power. If you vote Dem, you are empowering them to continue to pursue the war against the unborn. The only way they will come around is if they continue to lose elections because raw power is the only thing they value

Sorry, Anonymous (at 6:04 p.m.), you know no such thing. But like most everyone in Trumpworld, taking their cue from the Great Leader himself, you think you can just make stuff up and people will believe it.

Also, like most everyone in Trumpworld, again taking their cue from the Great Leader himself, you project. No politician is as corrupt as Trump, no politician has told as many lies as Trump, no politician lusts after power as much as Trump. And if we wait until the Democrats come around on abortion and vote Trump back into power, we very likely will no longer have a Republic to fight over anyway. So, I prefer to keep the Republic and combat the scourges of abortion and corrupt politics in other ways than selling our national soul to Trump.

Pray tell us, how do you explain away all the many Republicans, generals, and former officials in the Trump Administration, who attest to how unfit he is to be president? I’m sure you have answer, as all cultists do, but I’m certainly curious to know what it is.

Ok Lucy.....your next post should say "April Fools". You cannot be serious........

"Perhaps the planks in our eyes will help you to remove yours."

This makes NO sense.

"So did it take "Science" to convince Father K that life begins at conception or did he need it to confirm any doubts that he might have had about what the Church has been saying all along?"

Fr. Kavanaugh, as long as he has been commenting on this blog, has maintained his pro-life stance. This is not something he had to be "convinced" of. Nor has he ever, not once, been anything but 100% supportive of the Church's pro-life teachings.

Those who have wrongly accused him should acknowledge their errors.

Sub heading to the article (link provided above by Anonymous at 6:37 PM):

"Psychologists such as Jordan Peterson argue patriarchal society is the ‘natural order’, but it is a relatively new development, writes Gaia Vince"

A relative new development, heh? So it is evolutionary (and even better, revolutionary). Evolution is good,no? And revolution has it's usefulness.

Patriarchy- the gender revolution rules! The Patriarchal church militantly marches on.

I think I'll keep my St Joseph statue.

Whether Lucy's post is a prank or not what she presents is quite a clear, accurate and brief summary of the Woke ideology that has been so dominant in the humanities and social sciences in western universities over the past 3 decades. It is also the ideology that has been embraced by many people who around the world are now teaching our children and grandchildren aged 5 to 18.

Anonymous 2,

I think the Clintons' and the Bidens' are very corrupt and make President Trump look like an altarboy by comparison. You just willfully choose to ignore their corruption like the comment I made about the Clintoon Crime Foundation which suddenly is no longer receiving donations nor the recent revelations of Russian and Chinese money falling into the hands of Biden's "oh so talented, son." You are par for the course of what is wrong with modern academia - hardened, leftwing ideologues. I really can't take you seriously.

One of Joe Biden’s ways of contrasting himself with President Trump has been to declare the election a battle of Park Avenue values vs. Scranton, Pa., values.

Now we learn that Biden has secretly been playing footsie with China.

The statement Wednesday night asserting that the former vice president was a willing and eager participant in a family scheme to make millions of dollars by partnering with a shady Chinese Communist firm is a singular event in a presidential race already overflowing with drama and intrigue.

That's why the sane, call him China Joe!

Here is more info on your corrupt Bidens':

"Tony Bobulinski, who was listed as the recipient of an email published by the New York Post that appeared to detail a business arrangement involving a Chinese company and members of the Biden family, has confirmed that the email is "genuine" and provided more information regarding the Bidens' role in the deal.

The email includes a note that “Hunter has some office expectations he will elaborate.” A proposed equity split references “20” for “H” and “10 held by H for the big guy?” with no further details.

RATCLIFFE SAYS HUNTER BIDEN LAPTOP, EMAILS 'NOT PART OF SOME RUSSIAN DISINFORMATION CAMPAIGN'

"The reference to 'the Big Guy' in the much publicized May 13, 2017 email is in fact a reference to Joe Biden," Bobulinski said in a statement to Fox News.

Bobulinski said he is the CEO of Sinohawk Holdings, which he explained "was a partnership between the Chinese operating through CEFC/Chairman Ye and the Biden family." He said he was brought on as CEO by Hunter Biden and James Gilliar, who was listed as the sender of the email.

Bobulinski went on to say he does not believe Joe Biden's past claim that he and Hunter did not discuss his son Hunter's business, claiming that Hunter "frequently referenced asking him for his sign-off or advice on various potential deals."

"I’ve seen Vice President Biden saying he never talked to Hunter about his business. I’ve seen firsthand that that’s not true, because it wasn’t just Hunter’s business, they said they were putting the Biden family name and its legacy on the line," Bobulinski said.

SENATE HOMELAND SECURITY COMMITTEE INVESTIGATING HUNTER BIDEN EMAILS

"The Biden family aggressively leveraged the Biden family name to make millions of dollars from foreign entities even though some were from communist controlled China," he added.

Bobulinksi also said"

You are your faculty lounge crew would be apoplectic if this involved the Trump family

The only thing quite clear about Lucy's post is the uppity language she uses that most of us little people without the grand college education won't understand anyway....so so much for making a clear point.....and add to that the arrogance with which she uses her grand words.

Yes all of that is exceptionally clear and it makes people not want to listen to the point, however credible sha wants to make.

Anonymous said...

It's a sad, sad day - but not unexpected - when a person, because they are well educated, is accused of using "uppity" language and of being "arrogant."

As Isaac Asimov said, "“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

Anonymous said...

This is how the flawed ideology - of applied postmodernism and its offshoots - that has massively influenced millions of students in the West in the past 30 plus years was summarized for me (and by the way this ideology went with those millions as they got jobs in the media, journalism, the law, education and even private corporations etc - and if Christians are to successfully oppose the excesses of this ideology they must understand it.)

"They really go so far to claim that there is no reality in the world other than one constructed by words. Categories are constructed according to the power interests of groups advantaged by such constructions. The main intellectual labor must be to deconstruct these false categories and show them not to be based on objective reality or true knowledge but on ideology generated by a group wishing to attain or maintain a power advantage. The corollary of this belief is that these ideologies or discourses are taken to be " The truth" by those generating them and most times by those who are being exploited. Thus the only way that justice will be served is by analysing the modes and techniques of verbal deceit used in the construction of these ideologies to expose their fallacies and implausibilities..."

All those millions in the west raving about the oppressive patriarchy, white privilege, systemic racism, white fragility and regarding themselves as non binary or gender fluid and on and on and on all got those words and terms from somewhere; they didn't come up with all those words and terms themselves, they were taught them.

Anonymous said...

If the "Intellectualist" would like to be heard a little bit of humility in understanding that not everyone is at the same level as she, whether on this blog or elsewhere would certainly be welcomed. If what she has to talk about is important, and it may well be, yes the "uppity" language and the arrogance is going to be a barrier to that. Those of us who would be open to understanding she has totally negated. You can be well educated and yet still have the humility of understanding who it is you are speaking to and what their level of understanding might be. Especially if the point she is trying to make is important. I am not asking her to "Dumb down" although Anonymous at 9:39 may well interpret it as such.....just show an interest of actually wanting to reach us in a way that can be better understood.

Here is who modern Democrats are, strange we do not see this kind of violence coming from the Republicans:

A Massachusetts woman has been charged with assault after she allegedly pushed an elderly veteran to the ground while he was holding a pro-Trump sign.

Kiara Dudley, 34, was taken into custody following the purported attack on 73-year-old George Griffin, which is said to have occurred in the town of Douglas on Saturday.

Griffin - who served in the Navy during the Vietnam War - was standing on the town's Main Street with his wife, Joann, brandishing a 'Veterans For Trump' sign.

According to Douglas police, the couple were subsequently approached by a small group who 'began to berate them with insults and demanded that they leave.'

It is so important for Catholics to be able to raise themselves above many of the ideas of our age.
But to do that we must truly understand the key ideas of our era.
Also, it is important to remember, as was mentioned above, that the ideology of gender studies/gender theory etc does not exist only or mainly among some radical scholars and their students in some secular colleges/universities.
In our diocese 2 priests are fighting against feminist gender theory sneaking its way into Catholic high schools.
And in our state parliament several politicians are fighting against repeated successful attempts to have gender theory (eg teaching re gender fluidity and gender being a social construct etc) being introduced to primary school children in government schools under the guise of anti bullying programs.

Anonymous at 8:48 p.m.:

Yes, TJM is flailing around in desperation. Here is a report about what Chris Wallace, a real reporter in the old mould, has said about the new “email” allegations. (By the way, what a surprise—emails again, less than two weeks before the election. Who could possibly have imagined that?) As I said a couple of weeks ago, expect Trump to try every dirty trick in the books. (In the extremely unlikely event that the allegations should prove to be true, I will stand corrected):

https://www.thedailybeast.com/chris-wallace-shuts-down-fox-news-hunter-biden-fever-dream

As Wallace points out:

“Remember that the hard drive that the computer guy in Delaware gave to the FBI in December of 2019, so about 10 or 11 months ago, they’ve had,” he explained. “And one assumes that had Biden taken money from a foreign entity while he was vice president and had he lied—because we’ve seen his tax returns from 2019—that we would have seen the fruits of that investigation by now.”

Also, whatever Trump surrogate Ratcliffe may say (but please do parse his language very carefully), it seems the FBI is still investigating the emails on the laptop as a possible Russian disinformation effort (albeit with the lead being taken by Rudy, who is being manipulated). Of course, the Trumpists allege FBI Director Christopher Wray is covering up for Biden (I guess AG Barr is also covering up for him now too because he won't have Biden arrested).

TJM may hurl insults at those of us in academia (without of course having a clue whom he is talking about –or to), but do we remember critical thinking? You claim to be a lawyer, TJM. As I have said before: act like one.
