Beaufort County comprises the cities/towns of Hilton Head Island, Bluffton and Beaufort, South Carolina. The newspaper that covers this region has different incarnations, like the Hilton Head packet, Bluffton Packet and Beaufort Packet. All of these variations carry an advertisement at least weekly from Saint Peter Catholic Church in Beaufort. They usually purchase a full page ad. This is today’s ad. Usually the ad is an apologetic for the Catholic Church.
I have no idea how effective this is. Newspapers aren’t being read by many, either in print or on-line. I get the Island Packet on-line.
The coastal region of South Carolina, known as the Low Country, has a goodly number of Catholics and Catholic parishes in a state where Catholics are a minority. For example, Hilton Head has two Catholic parishes on a relatively small island, second only in size to Long Island.
I have no idea how much a full or half page ad costs. I suspect a pretty penny.
What do you think of this method of proselytizing or is it evangelization?
