"Hear much about Isis, North Korea or Syria lately?"
Pretty much every day.
ISIS "At debate, Pence said Trump team bringing 'justice' to ISIS guards. Under Obama, he called such moves 'naive, dangerous." The vice president and Trump have changed their tune on using civilian courts. (2 days ago.)
North Korea "Kim Jong Un Puts New Missiles On Display At Military Parade in North Korea" (today NPR) By the way, they are long range missiles, capable of hitting the US, and have nuclear capability.
Syria "Syria's Assad says Russian bases in his country keep balance of power in region Syrian President Bashar al Assad said the continued presence of Russia's major naval and air bases in his country help counter the influence of Western powers in the region as the battle to crush insurgents was winding down." So, if you are not hearing of ISIS, North Korea, and/or Syria on a regular basis, you are not paying attention.
Good video. Quite right too. Thanks to Father McDonald for posting it.
Did the Greatest Generation really fight, bleed, and die for our “right” not to wear a mask? No, I didn’t think so. Ever since my arrival in the States four decades ago, I have noticed that a knee-jerk response in word, deed, or attitude is “My rights . . .” Not that the Bill of Rights is not important. Of course it is important, but knee-jerk invocation of the letter or spirit of “rights” for every little encroachment on freedom is sheer, unadulterated piffle. Perhaps it is time for a new set of Ten Amendments to the Constitution—perhaps we could call it “The Bill of Responsibilities.”
Mar 23, 2019: ISIS has lost its final stronghold in Syria, the Syrian Democratic Forces announced Saturday, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist group in 2014.
The Caliphate of ISIS is no more. Its fighters have died by the tens of thousands. Al-Bagdadi is dead. ISIS exists now only as small remnants in a tiny corner of Iraq. Not a bad outcome.
Iran: Director General Rafael Grossi of the International Atomic Energy Agency just last month: " Iran does not at this stage have enough enriched uranium to make one nuclear bomb under the U.N. atomic watchdog's official definition."
The revolutionary guard's general, Qasem Soleiman is dead having met his untimely demise at the hands of the American military.
According to the BBC, U.S. sanctions against Iran "have led to a sharp downturn in Iran's economy, pushing the value of its currency to record lows, quadrupling its annual inflation rate, driving away foreign investors, and triggering protests. As far as Syria,ISIS has been expelled and the Israelis have handled the Iranian presence there quite well.
when it comes to North Korea, we are not hearing anything from them that we haven't been hearing for a number of decades now.
Hall Monitor, if you are not hearing much about ISIS, North Korea, and/or Syria on a regular basis, you are not paying attention
Rights are not the same as freedoms, and what we in the UK have seen since March is an unprecedented curtailment of individual liberty by what amounts to government diktat. Freedom of association, freedom of movement, freedom to conduct one's lawful business, are basic to a free society. The last time churches were closed in England was during the Interdict of 1208 to 1213, and even Oliver Cromwell could not close down the alehouses.
It's not all about mask-wearing, however irritating and ineffective that practice may be. Nor is it about people taking 'responsibility'; what were called 'guidelines' are now 'restrictions' enforced with draconian penalties. Citizens are encouraged to denounce their neighbours to the authorities if they suspect they are gathering in groups larger than six in the privacy of their own homes.
A relaxation of the rules in July and August has now given way to blanket local lockdowns where there is an increase in cases of infection. There is growing evidence that lockdowns actually make the infection rate worse, and when this happens the only thing the government can do is impose further restrictions - a cycle which will continue until a vaccine is found or (more likely) the entire country is bankrupt.
How many good people knew Hitler was evil but rationalized? “He’s against the Communists, the Jews, the unions, the liberals, the gays. He is useful to us.” How many people had to courage to stand up and say, “Wrong is wrong”? Few then, few today.
How on Earth do lockdowns make covid infection rates worse? Where’s the evidence to support such an assertion? I’ve never heard so much balloney. The first principle of managing infectious diseases is isolation / quarantine and barrier nursing!
You have access to the same sources as the rest of us. Do your own research into what even with your limited intellect you must realize is a complex issue with no clear-cut solutions and conflicting evidence, rather than making unqualified and blanket statements.
John Nolan, we've known for 100-plus years how contagions spread & we have a pretty good idea how to stop them. Masks, isolation, distance. It's not rocket science or quantum physics; nor is it unsettled science. It's incumbent on you, the person who made a bizarre and unsupported statement that lockdowns make infections worse,to show us some evidence. Turning the question back on NN and tossing in a gratuitous insult ("Your limited intellect")apparently is your only evidence.

Winston K,
Unlike the “Lightbringer” President Trump has started no wars. Hear much about Isis, North Korea or Syria lately?
A vote for the Donald risks the end of the world! So that's what is meant by the Last Trump ...

Hall Monitor K,
You never answered the question because President Trump has crushed Isis , North Korea or Syria, unlike Obama who supported them.
