Why the gold vestments or is that a trick of the camera?

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

Actually Marc, those are green vestments not gold, but I don't have any still photos in the chapel wearing violet to post only green.

did you press the link for our Facebook Mass with proper color vestment?

Marc said...

Ah. I see. I was curious since it is the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows today, which for our SSPX priests is a First Class Feast with gold vestments. I'm not aware if that is today in the new calendar or not.

Yes, I see that link there now. I really like your little chapel.

I live in Boise Idaho which by the way is a liturgical wasteland and called the Chancellery office and asked why the hatred of the TLM by Bishop Pete is so strong and he cannot tell priests not to offer the TLM via Pope Benedicts Moto Propio. I then said how in God's name can Bishop Pete tell people to report to him if anyone hears, sees any TLM being offered and how many people are there??? My parents grew up in Germany before and during World War II in Passau and all citizens were told to report citizens and family to the Geheime Staatspolizei aka the Gestapo this smacks of that era and needless to say she hung up on me!

LOL - you are da man (or woman).

She hung up on you? So Christlike, so generous. She did not offer to "accompany" you?

How do you take someone in authority who refers to himself as "Pete" seriously? Is that supposed to be welcoming and engaging? I suppose yes, to some of his flock which subscribes to his liturgical indentity politics.

Separately, Fr. M., great chausable.

We pray for bishops by their first name all the time. In the Eucharistic prayer we don't say, "For His Excellency, The Most Reverend Peter F. Christensen, MA, MDiv, DD, our bishop..."

Pete is the man's name, the name used every time the mass in his diocese is offered.

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

Certainly priests aren’t praying “for Frank our pope and Pete our bishop “ are they?

Peter Forsyth Christensen is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who serves as bishop of the Diocese of Boise, Idaho. On November 4, 2014, Pope Francis named Christensen the eighth bishop in the Diocese of Boise, Idaho. He was installed as bishop in Boise on December 17, 2014, at St. John's Cathedral. Wikipedia

Pete
familiar form of masc. proper name Peter. For Pete's sake is attested from 1903 in a list of children's expressions published in Massachusetts, probably a euphemistic use of the disciple's name in place of Christ; as an exclamation or quasi-oath, Peter! was in use 14c., but this likely is not connected to the modern use.

I would say that his grace's given name is Peter. That is what should be commemorated.

The Holy Father is Pope Francis, not Pope Frank, so, no, we don't pray for Frank our pope.

The bishop in Boise uses the name Pete, so it is entirely appropriate for them to pray, "For Pete, our bishop..."

The Bishop’s formal/baptismal name is Peter. That name should be used in the Church’s formal liturgy and I am sure it is required by the liturgy envisioned by Vatican II. If a bishop has a first name of Allan but he and others refer to him as Al. Or big Al, those names are not to be used. And many simply prefer their last name as their first name or an abbreviation of their last name, like my father whose given name was Donald but he went by Mac. A bishop who goes by that style of reverence must use his formal given name as Vatican II TAUGHT.

TJM Wash your upper lip, things will change.

Anonymous K,

I think "Cardinal" McCarrick's acolytes, like you, need to wash the upper lip (and probably the lower lip too)

In a Mass celebrated in Latin, the bishop would be referred to as Petrus (ablative Petro, as it follows the preposition 'cum'). I would suggest that the vernacular diminutive 'Pete' would probably pass muster in a vernacular Mass.

A former Archbishop of Liverpool was Derek Worlock. In Latin Derek would be Theodoricus (Theodoric was a king of the Ostrogoths, and there is a sixth-century Welsh saint Tewdric whose name is also Latinized thus).

The present holder of the post is Malcolm McMahon. When he was made Bishop of Nottingham in 2000 there was some debate as to what he should be called in Latin - important, since in the Novus Ordo the Canon is spoken aloud. An erudite member of the cathedral chapter came up with Milcolumbanus.

I'm the one from Eagle Idaho which is right next door to Boise and thank you Father McDonald for setting the record straight by calling him Peter and not Pete, and like you said not Big Al, or Freddy for that matter or Timmy the list can go on and on. Father what is your opinion of Bishop Christensen having people REPORT to him on TLM's in his diocese and how many people are attending them, is he the head of the KGB, Gestapo, East German Stasi or what?

TJM said...

Anonymous,

Even worse, Bishop Pete is a liberal

I sent an email to the rector of the Cathedral and stated that what Bishop Pete had to say about the Liturgy was demonstrably false. It will be interesting to see if I receive a reply.
