Rorate Caeli is reporting that bishops have been sent a survey about the EF Mass in their diocese. They include the survey in English for you to read in the links below.
We know some bishops like the EF Mass, others tolerate it and still others, despise it. All of this while horrible abuses in the OF Mass are ignored or encouraged. Very odd to say the least.
If there is to be a suppression of the EF Mass, or more controls over its, I doubt that the CDF would have issued new prefaces for the 1962 Roman Missal. That indicates to me that they see an organic development occurring in the EF Mass which Pope Benedict envisioned.
One question, though, which is quite interesting, is about the influence the EF Mass has had on the OF Mass. I think Pope Benedict modeled that for us during his pontificate. Would the CDF be sympathetic to this? I certainly would be and desire it completely.
However, the ominous sign from the Bishop of Idaho about not mingling EF characteristics with the OF Mass needs to be taken into consideration. But who knows.

When the motu proprio was first published, there was a period of
consultations of three years. It was defined by Pope Benedict XVI in his
accompanying letter
to bishops: "Furthermore, I invite you, dear Brothers, to send to the
Holy See an account of your experiences, three years after this Motu
Proprio has taken effect. If truly serious difficulties come to light,
ways to remedy them can be sought." This was done, and the result was
the mostly positive 2011 Instruction.

Quite strangely, now, 13 years after Summorum, when it has become a
permanent part of the life of the Church in many places throughout the
world, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), now
responsible for Summorum, has sent out a new survey for bishops on the
application of Summorum Pontificum, because, "His Holiness Pope Francis
wishes to be informed about the current application of the
aforementioned document."
It could be ominous. The questions seem neutral, but, once one reads them carefully, they may indicate serious consequences.
Rorate has received copies of both documents that were sent, and
that had been unknown to the faithful up to this moment: the March 7,
2020, letter of the Prefect of CDF to the Presidents of the Episcopal
Conferences, and the questions to bishops asked in the April 2020 survey
itself -- the due date is July 31, 2020.

The seven new optional prefaces, three of which are ancient and four adapted from similar prefaces in the new missal (Novus Ordo), were promulgated by the Decree Quo Magis, published on March 25, 2020.

An order to be ignored by a Vatican that can't stamp out sexual predators and fake priests and bishops who support the Abortion Party!
With the crew of rocket scientists now running the Vatican, those in favor with Bergoglio, nothing would suprise me.
It likely boils down to wanting the name of Extraordinary Form to use for televised Masses with no congregation, and will be proscribing the Tridentine merely to steal the name.
They found that Masses are much more fun with no congregation, and more comfy, as they can get away with no pants under the outer vestments in televised Masses and are planning pay per view to handle collections, and maybe only one Mass for entire world and dubbed in whatever language required, far simpler than learning proper Latin, while Bergoglio can point out this is not the ordinary form, but only for extreme needs, such as a pandemic of sheer laziness and greed. It would give him far more time to pontificate over matters not germane to a pontificate, such as $15/hr minimum wage and free healthcare for everyone named Bergoglio.

The TLM is here to stay.
In words, and deeds, His Holiness Pope Francis, from the beginning of his Pontificate to date, has made clear his support of the TLM.
Pope Francis has made it clear that the Faithful have the right to worship via the TLM.
It is a shame, but not surprising, that Rorate Caeli delved into fearmongering in regard to the TLM survey in question.

In the summer of 1986 an ad hoc commission of eight Curial cardinals was set up to examine the effect of the Instruction 'Quattuor Abhinc Annos' of two years earlier. They came up with a series of 'norms' which make interesting reading. They can be summarized thus:
1. In order to give 'due honour' to the Latin language, bishops should ensure that at least in the larger churches in their dioceses one Sunday Mass and one weekday Mass should be in Latin. [One assumes here that the Novus Ordo is meant - the English and Welsh bishops recommended the same back in 1970 but even then in many places that particular horse had bolted.]
2. When celebrating 'sine populo' any priest can use Latin exclusively. [Nothing new there.]
3. For every Mass celebrated in the Latin language - with or without the faithful present - the celebrant has the right freely to choose between the Missal of Paul VI (1970) and that of John XXIII (1962). The respective calendars would apply. [This is what Fr Allan would call a 'bombshell', a term that as a former artillery officer I don't like, since a bomb is a bomb and a shell is a shell.]
4. When the 1962 Missal is used, the readings can be in the vernacular and the 'preces universales' (bidding prayers) may be inserted. Also, prefaces from the 1970 Missal may be used ad libitum.
[This looks very much like a blueprint for Summorum Pontificum of 21 years later. When JP II issued the Apostolic Letter 'Ecclesia Dei Adflicta' in 1988, Marcel Lefebvre had consecrated his bishops and most of the document relates to that. In retrospect an opportunity was missed.]
Church Militant has just topped Rorate Caeli's nonsense in regard to the "ominous" TLM-related questionnaire.
Mister Voris' vicious group concocted, via "informed sources," a preposterous story that His Holiness hates, and is determined, to outlaw the TLM.
Church Militant said: "An informed source told Church Militant that Pope Francis is keen to abolish the Latin Mass..."
I run for the hills whenever Church Militant trots out an "informed source" story...as Voris and his group are liars.

LOL - I think this comment applies to the OF in spades. Neither awareness nor self-awareness is PF's strong suit.
Considering Mark Thomas's antipathy to the Rorate Caeli blog, I am surprised that he references it twice in order to support his argument.
He tells us that Pope Francis greeted Bishop Rifan (of Campos) cordially in May 2013. Why would he do otherwise? The Apostolic Administration which Rifan represents was established in 1992. They use the Traditional Mass exclusively, but Francis's 'cordial greeting' tells us nothing about his own opinions on the subject.
Fast forward to February 2014. Rorate reported on a Pontifical High Mass celebrated by Bishop Rifan in Sao Paolo, and said that the bishop remarked that Pope Francis considers the Traditional Mass to be a 'treasure'. We have no direct quotation from the Pope to this effect.
Yet in that same month the Czech bishops paid their 'ad limina' visit to Rome, and the subject of the Traditional Mass came up. According to the Archbishop of Olomouc, in a broadcast on Vatican Radio, the Pope said he understood why the older generation might be nostalgic for the old form, but could not understand why the younger generation should wish to return to it.
'When I search more thoroughly', said Francis, 'I find that it is rather a kind of fashion, therefore it is a matter that does not need that much attention. It is only necessary to show some patience and kindness to people who are addicted to a certain fashion.'
So what is it? A treasure or a fashion? Francis returned to this theme in 2016. Once again he asks himself why young people are attracted to 'pre-Vatican II' forms. This time he attributes it to 'rigidity', a favourite bugbear of his.
'Why so much rigidity? Dig, dig, this rigidity always hides something, insecurity or even something else.' [What is this 'something else'? Mental illness, perhaps?]
Mark Thomas is well aware of these quotations but ignores them since they undermine his argument. Looking at all the evidence it would not appear to sustain the view that PF is a great supporter of the Traditional Mass, yet it does not suggest that he wants to suppress it, which he can't do anyway. He rarely comments on liturgy per se, and quite probably has little interest in it, unlike his predecessor. I doubt if he has sung a Mass in his life.
