WOW! IS AFRICAN CARDINAL SARAH THE NEXT POPE RATZINGER?

From Rorate Caeli:

IMPORTANT - Cardinal Sarah: "Detachment of doctrine and pastoral practice is Heresy."
- The African Church will firmly oppose

French publishing house Fayard is publishing a book with an interview with one of the most impressive Cardinals in the College, the recently-named Prefect for Divine Worship, Cardinal Robert Sarah. "Either God or Nothing" (Dieu ou rien) has the very interesting subtitle "Entretien sur la foi" (Conversation on faith), which certainly calls to mind the groundbreaking book-interview of another Cardinal published three decades ago -- Rapporto sulla fede (Report on the Faith, published in English as... The Ratzinger Report).
From its presentation by French magazine Famille Chrétienne, we find the following remarkable extract of Cardinal Sarah's words on a concept that is absolutely central in the current debates initiated from the very top of the hierarchy that is shredding the Church in pieces:

"The idea that would consist in placing the Magisterium in a nice box by detaching it from pastoral practice -- which could evolve according to the circumstances, fads, and passions -- is a form of heresy, a dangerous schizophrenic pathology. I affirm solemnly that the Church of Africa will firmly oppose every rebellion against the teaching of Christ and the Magisterium."

A leader we can follow.

He was my prediction in the last conclave! He seemed like the perfect choice. He was a bishop for over 20 years and has also spent considerable time in Rome so he knows the curia. By other accounts I have read he is a very holy man who is not afraid to speak the truth.

The Blessed Mother has made it clear that Russia is God's instrument to punish the world for its sins and indifference. It appears that Africa may be the instrument of God's correction. Thank God for those bold Cardinals who disdain honors and worldly esteem!

What I notice about African cardinals, on the whole, is their comfort with: preaching the Catholic Truth clearly and simply, and celebrating the Sacred Liturgy reverently and joyfully. Vague statements and secular worship are missing.

Cardinal Arinze to the faculty of Georgetown University: "In many parts of the world, the family is under siege. It is opposed by an anti-life mentality as is seen in contraception, abortion, infanticide and euthanasia. It is scorned and banalized by pornography, desecrated by fornication and adultery, mocked by homosexuality, sabotaged by irregular unions and cut in two by divorce."

Robert Sarah is one to watch out for. So is Malcolm Ranjith. Already the liberals are sharpening their knives for both of them. The libs have a problem in that neither is white or European, but they'll get round this.

Bless his heart, the good Cardinal pretty well covered the sexual offense bases. Oh, wait...one more...pedophilia....

Rood Screen said...

Paedophilia is a crime throughout the civilized world, and therefore does not need a cardinal to condemn it. I'm not aware of any popular movements to legalize it, either.

If I close my eyes, in my minds eye I can see Pastor Gene doing cartwheels and hip-hip-hooraying the prospect of Pope Sarah.

John Nolan,

Well said. It's easy for us to weep for Africa, but can we learn from Africa?

This guy sound like just the kind of Pope we need. But, the Left will do their best to marginalize him.

That ridiculous comment from Señor Anonymous was just a cheap shot from someone who is trolling this site. He likely means to suggest that the Catholic Church has not dealt with the pedophilia problem.
Well, grant him this, it hasn't dealt particularly well with the sex abuse problem, but it's not pedophilia, it's ephebophilia and it involves same-sex attractions to adolescents. If more bishops and seminary staff had listened to…oh what's the use? And, for the zillionth time, Sr. Anonymous should be reminded that the number of priests involved was around one percent and that children are far more likely to be molested by public school teachers. When are we going to require VIRTUS for THEM?

Looks like we know who will stand up IF the Synod dare go in a certain direction. Deo Gratias.

The next Ratzinger? Let's hope he leaves the church in better shape than the last Ratzinger. Don't forget why Pope Francis was elected: The cardinals believed he had the energy and vision to clean up the messes and scandals Benedict left behind.

A study by the U.S. bishops a few years back said about 6 percent of all priests over a 50-year period had credibly been accused of abuse.
But that study had lots of gaps from certain dioceses and time periods. In some dioceses where there were thorough investigations, the numbers came close to 10 percent. More to the point, a public school teacher who molests a child most likely is going to jail. He/she would not be secretly switched to another school after the victim is paid off. The abuse is actually the lesser part of what outrages people; much worse was the high-level coverups.

I'm providing the below link to a a report from a major news organization.

Has News Media ignored Sex Abuse in schools?

By the way, I haven't read anything credible so far that puts the rate of child abuse among priests at greater than 3%.
Many of the cases that were in the news in recent years went back decades.

Statistics show that, across denominations, the percentage of pedophilic or homosexual clergy is around 3-4%.

This problem was dealt with some in the protestant church when I was a pastor. Usually, the minister, or music director, or youth minister ( beware of those about whom people say, "Oh, he is just so good with the young people.") was quietly allowed to resign and given an administrative position somewhere or, less frequently, required to quietly leave the ministry and find a secular job. On one or two occasions where there was behavior that was considered severe enough, people were either court-ordered into treatment or prosecuted in court. The overall attitude to this sort of thing was either, "well, just damn," or "ho hum." Of course, a lot of clever jokes arose from such stuff. Ho hum.

Unlike the Catholic Church there is no paper trail with such occupancies. Yet the main problem in all of these religiou situation is the abuse of adolescents not small children the latter truly pedophilia not the former but both morally bankrupt and illegal.
