Indeed. I saw Ignotus out at a Macon store a couple of weeks ago week dressed in spiffy Bermuda shorts, and a polo shirt. If he had showed up at a wreck they would have thought he had wandered over from the Country Club...
Gene: Whether you are reporting accurately or making another joke, is there any purpose to marring this beautiful story with yet another gratuitous insult to Pater Ignotus? Even though some may question the practice, you know very well that many priests dress in “civvies” on their “rest days.” The saintly Monsignor Cuddy certainly did so. No-one seems to know who this mystery priest was, but it was Sunday morning. Would it change the beauty and power of this lovely story if his rest day was Monday and he dressed in “civvies” on that day?
The various Anonymi who comment on the lack of civility on this Blog but who then apparently fail to point out examples need hardly be faulted. There are many examples, even now, when we are, as Marc pointed out on another thread, doing a lot better than before.
I know, I should first remove the plank in my own eye – and you’re probably right.
Last year, I was waiting to eat at Red Lobster, and while waiting, I saw a priest walk out.
In fact, my memory wants me to say it was the esteemed author of this blog--but it was before I had met him, so my brain may be trying to fill holes in my memory.
Although I'm not inclined to suggest a priest wear certain attire (ahem, cassock, please), I think a priest should have something to identify himself as such, in the event of an emergency.
I am reporting accurately, Anonymous 2. It has no effect on this wonderful story, in fact, it rather highlights it, I think. According to others with whom I have spoken, this is characteristic of Ignotus.
Pin/Gene - Being of a "certain age," I am never without my reading glasses. Polo shirts have no pocket for glasses, so unless you saw me gardening around the church where glasses are not needed and where I do wear one of two ratty, threadbare polo shirts that I save for such moments, it was not I you claim to have seen.
As usual, your reportage about me misses the mark, by a country mile.
Yes, I often go out and about in civvies. No harm in that.

Miracles spook me.
Anon 2 - Fear Not. Pin/Gene's reportage is just another example of his fantasies about me. Rather unhealthy fantasies at that.
No fantasy. I know what you look like...wait, maybe it was your Episcopalian twin...LOL!
