Also this:
Archbishop Viola was part of an event in 2012 in Perugia along with Father Cassian Folsom (prior of the Norcia Monastery), which discussed active participation in both forms of the Roman rite.

I do remember your piece. Since then, everything I've seen in blogs and such seems to suggest that Viola is quite anti-latin mass. If that's true, and combined with what you're saying, the best outcome would be that maybe less attention be paid to moneymaking sideshow and private masses *could * return, but ultimately it represents more continuity than not.
The reason that this pessimistic bum leans towards yikes would not so much be that this would be only a slight improvement, but that this gives some indication of what kind of cardinals we will get, and I'm wondering that it isn't serious enough of a course correction. Not that I'd expect (or want) 120 Burkes either, but still
Let’s face it, prior to instant news and details about the inner workings of the Vatican, who in the world thought anything about the prefect for St. Peter’s Basilica. It’s just one more venue for manufactured rage and division. I was clueless about how basilicas were managed and how Gambetti, evidently, mismanaged St. Peter’s. I do think in his new role, Viola will rectify much of went wrong under Gambetti. And Viola seems to be a man of refined good taste, in the liturgical sense. While it appears that he desires not the EF Mass, but the Bugnini Mass celebrated well, and I have seen a couple of clips of him celebrating it, even where he chants the consecrations, does not gesture to the congregation at all and preaches with his eyes closed (which I don’t particularly like) but he comes across as very spiritual. As for me, I am a bit tired of the EF/OF liturgy wars and just want the Ordinary Expression of the Mass celebrated well, with EF sensibilities as it concerns reverence. In fact, when TC was being implemented in my diocese, I wanted it to stay at our Cathedral but as a Latin Ordinary Form celebrated ad orientem and with kneeling for Holy Communion. That was nixed but the EF Mass continues in a gothic church six blocks away. But I think the future of the liturgy isn’t the EF but God willing an OF celebrated with EF sensibilities.
We did not know who were the prefects in the past because it was inconsequential; the liturgy was on autopilot. Now the appointment signals the mind of the man on top. I will give Viola the benefit of the doubt but frankly I am not hopeful.
The refusal to replace the suppressed EF Mass at your cathedral highlights the problem. We are constantly told that we must accept the OF but legitimate traditional forms of the OF are suppressed. This is what has driven the desire for the EF in the first place. There is also the hypocrisy: how can they insist that we accept the OF when they themselves reject it by putting these restrictions in place?
I believe the TLM folks will be the last Catholics standing. The Novus Bogus continues to chase people away in droves. Just compare the stats from 1960 to today. The Vatican is living in a fool's paradise
I just saw on the news that Pope Leo will be undergoing surgery to remove a growth on his lung.
The Novus Bogus is really doing its job!!!! The New Springtime!
''Archbishop William Nolan has announced widespread cuts to the Archdiocese of Glasgow in Scotland amid dwindling attendance and a shortage in available priests.
“For years now there has been much talk of the need to restructure and reduce the number of parishes in the archdiocese. A plan for that restructuring has now been drawn up, reducing the number of parishes by half and seeing the closure of two dozen churches,” Archbishop Nolan said in an Oct. 7 statement on Facebook.''
You'd think the Vatican and our hierarchy would take a hint that the Novus Bogus has failed and change course regarding their mean spirited and idiotic attempt to suppress a proven winner - the TLM!!!!
