Let me use my clairvoyance about Pope Leo XIV:
He will refine Pope Francis manner of synodality not cancel it.
He will refine Pope Francis TC to make it a refined SP, not cancel it.
He will refine all the charitable works of the Holy See and praise Pope Francis outreach and welcome of the poor and marginalized, not cancel it.
He will refine Pope Francis migrant outreach with nuance about the right to legal migration and not cancel it.
He will refine the new Mass, not cancel it.

I make zero prognostication as there is zero on which to base it. So, far, all he has done is dress like a pope and make general popish comments as typical aside from the Bergoglio aberration of Francis.
IF he stays true to the progressive cause, he will spend much time defending that cause by repairing damage done to that cause in Francis, in rehabilitating Francis in the public eye to give it a shiny new look of respectability through his own more normal Catholic exercise of the office, to where both papacies seen as one nice and pleasant and reasonable mainstream thing. Which is exactly what he has done in the last couple of days, and Parolin conspicuously present at his shoulder at his papal reveal.
I found this commentary on Facebook: Leo XIV: A Quiet Sign of Hope
In just a few days, Pope Leo XIV has offered a quiet but profound surprise. He has spoken with grace, prayed with solemnity, and made it clear—both in word and gesture—that his pontificate will not be one of improvisation or ideology, but of reverence, reason, and renewal.
He seems to carry the moral resolve of John Paul II, the liturgical and intellectual clarity of Benedict XVI, and the human warmth of Francis—but with a centre of gravity more contemplative, more rooted.
His return to the Apostolic Palace, his respect for tradition, his commitment to collegiality, and his gentle yet firm tone all suggest a pope who knows the weight of Peter’s office and carries it not as a politician, but as a pastor and a scholar.
In an age when many feared the Catholic Church might fragment as others have—like the Church of England, slowly drifting from creed to consensus—Leo XIV may prove a kind of proof that the Holy Spirit is still quietly guiding the Barque of Peter through stormy waters. #leoxiv #popeleo #papacy
Bob, to me, refinement might be the best approach to avoid Francis' cancelation approach. Perhaps not looking to rehabilitate so much as model continuity such that succeeding papacies aren't reversing each other at 15 years approximate intervals.
As for the future of the progressive cause as expressed by the "gay mafia" within the Church power structure, their cause appears to a losing one, at least within the US church, and happy news for the heterodox.
This article gives much space to the pro-gay side, and it all hand wringing over the ramifications of the sociology study regarding US gay priests discussed in the article.

I am amazed at Pope Leo's poise and how he exudes kindness and common sense. Deo Gratias
To date, his "refinement" has consisted of lavish praise for, and constant reference to, Francis at every address to anybody about anything. With this PR campaign, and if this papacy as successful as projected by so many, Francis may yet be in the running for sainthood.
Human warmth? Father, who are you kidding--he didn't swap zucchettos or grab any kids! He's meaner than Pope Benedict was!!!

The below Silere post, this one, even a CNA piece talking of him chanting Latin, but not simply reporting he chanted in Latin, but, "mellifluously chanted in Latin"....you'd think the Age Of Aquarius had dun struck again, such is the Leo Love Fest of projected golden age currently giddy-ing up and going in the Catholic e-world.
And all fueled mainly by only one sure fact called "not-Francis".
He looks good, no denyin'.
He smiles with his eyes! Not just a humble grimace with the lips !
Bob,
I am a Latin afficionado, having studied it for several years, have sung in Gregorian Chant scholas, etc. Pope Leo is the best I have witnessed from a Pope in my lifetime, and I go back to Pius XII. It is obvious Leo has more than a passing familiarity with Latin and chant.
Fr. DE,
Or a vinegar-faced scowl (reserved for, among other things, right-wing politicians)
Nick
No doubt about it, but also no doubt his fluency in later Romance languages no little help....but the CNA "mellifluously" comment article went from straight news reporting to hagiographic music review.
Bob,
Remember how the media slobbered over Obama, the ultimate empty suit, whom public school children in New Jersey sang hymns to?
Numerous folks here have insisted repeatedly that the Synodal Way is irredeemable...spiritual poison in any form...beyond refinement...must be destroyed. Suddenly, the Synod just requires some refinement...then all will be be fine?
=======
Pope Leo XIV has expressed unrelenting confidence in the Synod. Last year, then-Cardinal Prevost declared that two Synods existed: Pope Francis' authentic Synod, as well as the false "Internet Synod."
Then-Cardinal Prevost had praised to the hilt Pope Francis' Synod. As Pope, our new Holy Father has made it clear that Pope Francis' Synod is the way forward for the True Church.
Although not mentioned in this thread, Pope Leo XIV has made it clear that he will move forward also with Pope Francis' implementation of Vatican II.
Pope Leo XIV:
"In this regard, I would like us to renew together today our complete commitment to the path that the universal Church has now followed for decades in the wake of the Second Vatican Council.
"Pope Francis masterfully and concretely set it forth in the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, from which I would like to highlight several fundamental points:
"...growth in collegiality and synodality...attention to the sensus fidei...courageous and trusting dialogue with the contemporary world.."

Deo gratias that Pope Leo XIV is determined to move the Church forward in line with tremendous reforms that, via the Holy Ghost's guidance, Pope Francis had developed.
Pax.

Lol - MT Suit is now a standup comic!!

Ah yes, the Holy Spirit certainly provided guidance in repeatedly protecting sexual predators and dismantling one's own feeble attempts at cleaning up Vatican finances. Hagan lio, or something.

Mark, synods predate Francis, and were good things. Synods as run by Francis were the destructive thing, and it is hoped the new pope recovers the good way of conducting synods of BISHOPS with BISHOPS making decisions at them and BISHOPS in charge of deciding upon and instituting any results.
Can you do nothing but "yeah, but wuddabout" and hagiographic paeons?

Bob.
Correct. I believe this to be the principal means of major governance within Byzantine Orthodoxy.
Fast fact: In Russia, they are a "sobor", council/synod.
Nick,
Yep...the Holy Ghost was there every step of the way as He guided Pope Francis, who, in turn, had taught, governed, and sanctified us.
Regardless as to the amount of times that Pope Francis may have stumbled/fallen, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ had set Pope Francis upright.
Regardless, as to whatever sins that Pope Francis may have committed, Jesus Christ embraced Pope Francis with unfathomable love, mercy, and forgiveness.
========
Nick, one thing is certain in regard to the Holy Ghost: The Holy Ghost has not guided your countless foul, vile, hateful attacks against Pope Francis.
Nick, the following is also certain: Our Majestic God of monumental mercy is there to forgive your countless foul, vile, hateful attacks against Pope Francis.
I am blessed and thankful that our Majestic God of monumental mercy is there to forgive my countless foul, vile, hateful sins.

Nick, I pray that you and I will grant unto Pope Leo XIV our "unconditional reverence and obedience."

MT,
Your comments are becoming increasingly bizarre and deluded, unless you wish to maintain the position that pointing out a pope's poor decision-making is a "foul, vile, hateful attack." I could get into more "foul, vile, hateful attacks" like pointing out that the number of seminarians dropped continuously from 2013-2025, after actually increasing for years before. Or I could Satanically point out that Fiducia Supplicans and its immediate aftermath was completely botched, to the point that entire bishops' conferences essentially opted out of it.
It's astonishing that a person could be so deluded to identify verifiable facts and events like these as "foul, vile, hateful attacks." But apparently you are that deluded. Unless you are referring to other comments of mine--please do, provide some examples. It should be easy, given how "countless" and "countless" they are.
Your unceasing stream of poisoned, sanctimonious syrup makes me sick. You seem to revel in holding near-heretical, caricaturized positions on the pope and papacy as if that is the Catholic position, and shaming and subtly condemning Catholics for having the gall to disagree with you. You are a risible broken record for denying facts, ignoring counterfactuals, and blindly taking the position that "the pope did or said it, therefore it must be right"--which is not the Church's teaching.
I've had it up to here with your holier-than-thou claptrap, and now you choose to come down from your ivory tower of pope-praising to level a double accusation of "countless foule, vile, hateful attacks" on the pope against me? I thought you couldn't get more unserious. Put up or shut up, man. I suspect you'll shut up, as you always do whenever a your copy-and-paste machine fails to provide you with any response. But do surprise me this time.
And no, I won't pledge unconditional reverence and obedience to the pope. That is absolutely not what is required for Catholics to believe regarding the pope and arguably is explicitly something Catholics should not do in general, and the closest you can come to magisterial support for the position is... a former pope. And you know it.
Nick
Nick,
MT Suit NEVER responds to inconvenient truths. I guess he would have offered "unconditional reverence and obedience" to the Borgia and Medici popes! LOL
Question to MT: What is your position vis-a-vis the reigns of the Borgia Popes? Not asking to be snarky, but trying to understand your perspective.
Mike Lutz, hello! Thank you for your question.
God has long summoned flawed, sinful men and women to serve him. In regard to your question:
Even a "bad" Pope does not lose his God-given authority to teach, govern, and sanctify us. Such a Pope is blessed with an unfailing Magisterium.
Therefore, in line with Pope Benedict XVI's holy, powerful example, we do well to offer to the Pope our "unconditional reverence and obedience."
In regard to a Pope's flaws and sins: Pray for him. Recognize that Satan will work overtime to attack the Pope.
Thank you.
Pax.
Mark Thomas
MT,
The proposition that we imitate Pope Benedict's promise to his successor suffers from the fact that (1) we are not about-to-be popes emeriti and (2) it completely ignores the boundaries of obedience due to those who are not God.
Is your copy-and-paste working overtime to support your scurrilous accusations of me? A retraction is another available option.
Nick
