Will Leo wear the red papal hat??? Time will tell:
Archbishop . George Gänswein, Apostolic Nuncio to Lithuania and former secretary to Pope Benedict XVI, shares his view. In declarations to Italian daily Corriere della Sera,*** Gänswein said:
"Leo XIV will create bridges like his predecessor. But in a different context and a different style than Francis. In the Church today there are great tensions, and outside there are frightening conflicts. I think doctrinal clarity is needed now. The confusion of these years must be overcome. And one of the tools to be used are the structures that are already present there. The institutions of the Church are neither a plague, nor a threat against the Pope. They are there to provide help to the pontiffs, who must get help. You cannot govern yourself by distrusting your own institutions." ...
“Papa Prevost gives me great hope. I am convinced that he will make a positive impact within the Church and in the world. He is a peacemaker. Already the choice of name, in the tradition of St. Leo the Great and Leo III who crowned Charlemagne in the 800s, is very indicative. Name and dress made it clear that there will be continuity, not a totally new phase. His experience, ability to speak many languages, the fact that he was a missionary, but also worked in the Curia for two years, make him both a pastor and a governing pope. He does not come from one background but from many things together. And this will allow him to speak to everyone.” ...
"Now a new phase is opening. I sense some widespread relief. The age of arbitrariness is over. We can start counting on a papacy that can guarantee stability and rely on existing structures, without overturning and upsetting them."

The age of arbitrariness is over. I certainly hope so!
A sigh of relief
condensed version: "not-Francis".
Cautiously optimistic. Like what I "see" and "hear" so far. I like his background. I hope we are over the passive aggressive, but often front and center vendettas that marked the Francis Papacy.
As for red hats and traditional vestments, the vestments have that deep link to the past in being very much upper class garb of Romans of around the time of Constantine and earlier.....the red hat I am not so sure, it strikes me as more middle-ages, not that accretal is a bad thing as made out to be by progressives, since also what is best about today's world is what comes to us by accretal.
I would. Short hair. I burn.
Would we any of us be surprised if Ganswein is recalled to Rome?
I think I should be....am not expecting a "rehabilitation" of those cast out who were associated with prior papacies, nor am I automatically assuming any major Vatican housecleaning of staffing....but, a new pope, so one never knows, however, he was written off by conservatives due to shady abuse handling allegations and yet was elected in only four ballots by somebody, and am not expecting to see a staffing bloodletting of those somebodies who promoted him as a good choice for pope.
To further the insight into his rise to power, this article at Crisis details his meteoric rise and association through that rise to being well known among the cardinal powers that be within the curia....

Left unsaid is the fact he did not appoint himself to all these helpful positions, and which of them engineered that rapid build of portfolio, while impossible to think him ignorant of who was behind all the rapid fire resumè building and him aware of the plans being made for him.
