Now if Father McDonald had only celebrated Mass ad orientem?
I have the greatest respect for Father McDonald and all he has done to restore dignity to the Mass. When I was in college in the early 1970s at a well known Catholic University I took a course in Eucharistic Theology. My professor, a very distinguished priest, although I would have viewed him as a progressive type, condemned children-oriented Masses, particularly Masses celebrated outside of a Church setting. He called it a pedological error and said you would not find this approach to liturgy in Eastern Rites nor Jewish liturgies.
The Mass was for the family reunion of a permanent deacon and his wife who have 9 adult children all of whom are married and still practicing the faith. 55 men women and children at the beach get away home of his daughter and son-in-law….
They sound like a wonderful, Catholic family, so they should be among the first to recognize this may not be the best way to teach their grandchildren about the Mass. Maybe I feel this way because I was introduced to the very best of the TLM when I was growing up: the Basilica I attended had an all-male choir singing Gregorian Chant and Sacred Polyphony. It was like a foretaste of Heaven.
Here is a clip of a Mass in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where Palestrina was sung. You will note the exceedingly young age of the choir and the congregation. Bishops and priests who oppose this hate the Catholic faith and its faithful.

These informal Masses outside of sacred precincts is a pedological mistake. If they are done due to emergency, fine. Otherwise, verboten.
No kids sitting on the floor in this crowd!
