THE TLM EXTERNAL FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI AT SACRED HEART CHURCH, SAVANNAH, GEORGIA, YOURS TRULY CELEBRANT…

Here are a few photos from the External Feast of Corpus Christi on Sunday, June 22. We also had a Corpus Christi Procession following the Mass outside, returning for Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament in the Church. (As I post this, I do not have any outdoor pics of the procession, although there are a few of the Benediction part at the end of the procession):

Beautiful chasuble!

Oversized bib. According to none other than St. Charles Borromeo, this style of chasuble, wrongly named the "Roman" chasuble" and wrongly named the "fiddleback" chasuble, represents a break with tradition. It is almost a vestigial vestment.

I see the supporter of the Party of Intrinsic Evil still has all of his much vaunted “charm.”

I'm happy to stand with St. Charles Borromeo on chasubles. No bibs for me.

For the intellectually liturgically astute who what more than the poor polemics and dribbling of FRMJK about the various Roman styles of vestments, here’s a great article:

K given your intellectual and maturity level, I'd say a "bib" is the perfect fit for you!

TJM - You're arguing against a Saint who was known for his intelligence, his pastoral wisdom, and who was a champion of education. So who is the intellectually challenged in this conversation?

Fr. ALLAN McDonald - What purpose is served by minimalizing the chasuble?

Use of this style is just another example of the erroneous notion that if you make the liturgy look, sound, and smell like it did in the 40's - 1940's, 1840's, 1740's, etc - then the Catholic ethos and zeitgeist of the 40's will be magically recreated.

Shame! Shame! Shame! You condemn me as well as Popes Leo, Benedict, JPII AND I Paul VI, all who have worn these along with their grandma’s lace.

K, I know math is hard for Dems like you. But Saints John XXIII, John Paul II, and Paul VI would not agree with you. That's 3 to 1, you lose!

Fr. Michael J. Kavanaugh said...

Fr. ALLAN McDonald - it is no "condemnation." And can you tell me "What purpose is served by minimalizing the chasuble?"

As for John XXIII, John Paul II, and Paul VI, I don't know that they ever made comments on the so-called fiddleback chasuble. Did they? (Wearing one isn't a comment.)

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

Wearing one isn’t a comment just like you not wearing one isn’t a comment. It is to laugh! Minimizing the chasuble, what a polemic term that is. Your self-awareness is very minimal. Wow. Next you’ll be complaining about the pope wearing the Mozzetta and papal stole along with the surplice underneath.

Father McDonald effortlessly debunks the empty cassock’s post. Bravo!

"In the 17th and particularly from the 18th century, authorised by no Ecclesiastical authority, the form of the chasuble almost universally used was that pendant-like form which we call the “Roman” chasuble. There were only a few voices raised in objection to setting aside the Tradition of the ample chasuble. And then, although it only occurred by degrees and over a period of time, that pendant form of chasuble, which to S. Charles represented such a break with Tradition,..."

Yes, the "ample" (meaning large and accommodating) chasuble was minimized (meaning to reduce or keep to a minimum). Self-awareness is not needed - a 3rd grade vocabulary is.

John 23rd, John Paul 2, Paul 6 made, to my knowledge, comments on the so-called fiddleback chasuble. Prove me wrong...?

Fr. Michael J. Kavanaugh said...

What reveals the superficiality of your - both of you - comments is that you've made no response to Borromeo's complaint. That's fine and dandy - do what you want. But the criticism remains of the break with tradition represented by the minimization of the chasuble.

And I though you were ALL ABOUT tradition.....

K, as a leftwing loon Abortion Party supporter, you could care less about San Carlo Borromeo, who would condemn your evil modern day Nazi Party ( they loved abortion). We still have 3 saints to your misappropriation of one Saint! Has cocktail hour started early today?

TJM said...

There is no one more superficial than a faux priest who votes for the Abortion Party. Hell is your future venue

Poor little K, sad little troll who needs to develop a blog for himself and MT Suit
