I LIKE IT! I LIKE IT! I LIKE IT!

This is a church in Vienna built prior to the Second Vatican Council. It is a particular kind of look to say the least and from an artistic point of view quite beautiful and very feminine. But the frilly type albs and other vestments that traditionalists like are quite feminine too and that doesn’t stop real and not so real men from wearing these.

Below these photos is a link to an article that has a lot more photos, stunning photos.

What you will note is how it all fits together along with the accoutrements  such as vestments, the monstrance, etc.

What is disturbing but what Vatican II did to the logic of church architecture, or should I say, the spirit of Vatican, can be seen in the enlarged picture of the sanctuary. It is the free standing and flimsy altar that you almost miss because it is so out of place and insignificant and nothing like anything else in the church.

But apart from that fly in the ointment, enjoy the eye candy below and in the article I link:

Did you miss the Vatican II altar that almost looks like a gate to the altar railing? Look more closely:

Stunning gothic style vestments designed to match the building itself and its liturgical objects. Please note the monstrance.

All kinds of eye candy pictures included in this link:

I like this style very much. Alphonse Mucha is one of my favorite artists and reflects this style very well. Thank you for this!

Stunning! Had they used altar gate to form the base of portable altar, it might have worked.

When a church is carefully designed the result can be a very pleasing unity in the overall accomplishment. This little gem has that in spades.

I agree with William that using the gates to form the base for the new altar would have been preferable.
