Bishop Strickland relieved of pastoral governance of US diocese
The Vatican has published the Pope’s decision concerning the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Tyler, Texas, following an apostolic visitation conducted by two US bishops.

The Holy Father has removed Bishop Joseph E. Strickland from the pastoral care of the diocese of Tyler, United States of America, and has appointed Bishop Joe Vásquez of Austin as apostolic administrator of the same diocese, rendering it sede vacante.
The decision came after an apostolic visitation ordered by the Pope last June in the Diocese of Tyler, which was entrusted to two US bishops.

The removal of +Strickland is outrageous and a clear abuse of power. As far as anyone can tell, there are no legitimate grounds to remove him from office. The episcopal critics of John Paul II were many and varied. However, the great JPII was never vindictive and never removed any of his episcopal critics from office unless there was a grave reason. +Strickland’s removal will cause outrage among some of this country’s bishops because of the injustice while the vast majority of these spineless wonders will simply sit back and cower in fear of the tyrannical occupant of the Petrine office.

John-Henry Westen said that he had spoken this morning with Bishop Strickland. Mister Westen reported that Bishop Strickland is at peace.
Mister Westen has an interview with Bishop Strickland that has been scheduled for later today.

Neither he nor anyone else not involved in the process - and reading salacious, firebrand waving headlines isn't being involved - knows the facts.
Yet, Simplex can tell us without a doubt that, having no real knowledge of the facts, Pope Francis has acted unjustly and is being vindictive and tyrannical and is abusing his power.
Pretty amazing.

MJK: As a priest of 40+ years from a major archdiocese, I know how things work in the church. Therefore, there is nothing amazing about what I said in my last post concerning the removal of Strickland. No reasons were given for his removal. He simply challenged the spirit of the world which has entered into the church through many who hold episcopal office including Francis.

Upon further reflection on your response to my initial post I would like to point out that there is a canonical process which is supposed to be used to remove a bishop from office. On November 9th Strickland was asked to resign. His refusal to resign led to his removal two days later. How is that just?
By his disregard for the established canonical process, Francis has demonstrated his disregard for the rights of Bishop Strickland. If that action does not qualify as an example of the abuse of power and the vindictiveness of the Pope, then words have no meaning.
Francis’ reputation as a tyrannical and vindictive man is well known among the clergy in Rome. Those of us who have friends in Rome know their first hand experiences of this man whose lack of graciousness is evident in the abusive insults he heaps upon all those who disagree with him. I miss the graciousness of JPII and Benedict.

SS - As a priest of 36+ years from an non-major diocese, as if that mattered, I know how things work in the Church, too.
The pope alone hears cases regarding bishops (Canon 1405/1). He alone bears the right and responsibility for determining how to proceed after hearing the facts as presented to him by the visitators.
We are rarely given reason for a bishop's removal from office unless reasons involve civil crimes. This is nothing new.
I don't think your "He simply challenged the spirit of the world..." is an accurate description of Strickland's actions.
One man's tyrant is another man's strong leader.
MJK: Your consistently unpleasant posts are actually a good reminder of the “clericalism” which is a bane to genuine pastoral care.
If the way in which you engage people who post on this blog is any indication of the way in which you minister to your people, my heart goes out to the recipients of your opprobrium.
SS - Like you, many people here label disagreement as unpleasantness. It is easier to do that, I suppose, than to consider what was said.

I am still waiting patiently for your "proportionate" reason for voting for the Party that LOVES killing the innocent unborn and wants us to pay for that!
