THANK GOODNESS THAT IRELAND IS TEACHING THE WORLD HOW TO DO LITURGY!?!

Here’s a screen shot of the magnificent Church and the magnificent liturgy that teaches us how well Vatican II has been implemented as it concerns Ireland and Sacrosanctum Concilium. And just think that they have been able to accomplish this in less that 100 years!

Thank God that Pope Francis has canceled Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI’s going backwards. If they had their way, we wouldn’t have this well implemented Vatican II Liturgy, that took only about 55 years to establish, not 100 years!!!

He needs a cigarette and sunglasses.

Why isn’t that priest at least wearing an alb over his religious habit?

The silliness of this video aside....

I want to rescue both Jesus and that high altar.

Enough of that.

What's the background of your current masthead? My goodness, that's beautiful. I love how they've integrated the sheaves of wheat to make a screen of sorts. Beautiful. Hoping this survived the '60s/70's imperious "liturgists".

All is well, and it's obvious all is well, and anyone who says otherwise hates Pope Francis, Vatican II...

And puppies. Especially puppies.

As today is Yom Kippur, I watched services from Temple Emanuel, off Central Park in NYC.

This temple, evidently the largest in the world, is this amazing Byzantine, Romanesque structure that's filled with motifs specific to Judaism, a bewildering amount of mosaic tile, breathtaking stained glass and Art Deco styling that is just a magnet for my eye. I can't get enough of it.

When contrasted with this post, it's night and day. When contrasted with the Catholic Church as intended, our Jewish roots are both apparent and visible. The poetry of the prayers felt so familiar relative to the Byzantine liturgical texts. You can pick up a TLM hand missal and easily feel the same. The part of the service for the departed reminded me of a choral requiem liturgy. The tones have overlap, at least to my ear. The ark, gloriously elevated, is the obvious precursor to our tabernacle gloriously elevated on the altar. The eternal light hangs like our sanctuary lamps. The choral music and the cantoring, particularly in the Christian East, the parallels and origins, tonal quality are as clear as day. Our chant doesn't permit the peak/trough for emphasis to the same extent as the Jewish tradition, nonetheless, it remains. I could go on and on.

That's hard to watch. Can't pick on the Irish but, hey, that's what they're for, right? Seriously, I have been to Mass many time with equally wretched music.
