PLEASE USE A CONSISTENT HANDLE OF SOME KIND WHICH WOULD HELP WITH THE COMMENT SECTION

Blogger which is the platform I use for my blog does not have, as far as I can tell, a method of forbidding anonymous comments by requiring a handle of some kind. I thought it did and when I switched, I realized no one could make comments.

Thus, please use a handle of some kind and stick with it or use your own name. Anonymous 2 type handles is fine with me.

I do think it is unethical to use multiple handles to disguise a person even further and it is a LOL moment since those who do it write in a way which easily allows detection. Also, I get multiple comments to post from the same person who uses multiple handles at the same time, so I can tell.

Finally, as my disclaimer indicates, please respond to comments and not people. IT IS EXTREMELY TIRESOME THE CONSISTENT MEME FROM ONE OR TWO ABOUT FRMJK AND THE ABORTION PARTY AND CONSTANTLY RESPONDING TO HIM AND HIS PERCEIVED IDEOLOGIES. DON'T DO IT. I HAVE BEGUN DELETING MOST OF THOSE RATHER THAN POSTING SO TIRESOME IT IS.

Awwwww Father, you found me out!

Will you be deleting Fr. k’s anti Trump tirades?

Unethical? Hardly.

Be that as it may, you've made your bed, now lie in it.

Yes! Certainly somewhat. Let’s say hardly cowardly too meaning somewhat cowardly.

Thank you, Father. All the hateful commentary between a couple of people acting as armies had me wanting to rinse out brain with hot soapy water after even scanning across them to try to find a good comment buried in the filth. Was about to give up.

I assume that comments are moderated before they are published, so don't publish those which are simply 'anonymous' or use constantly changing pseudonyms whose aim is apparently not to conceal the identity of the commenter but to antagonize others for no good reason.

At the moment we have the absurd situation where one Anonymous 'outs' another Anonymous and vice versa, in order to trade insults.

US party politics is a cesspit, and those of us who are not US citizens but admire and respect America (by no means uncritically) don't need to be constantly reminded of the fact.

Another contributor to this site indicates by his prolixity, repetitiveness, selective quotation and bizarre linguistic mannerisms that he suffers from a form of ASD. It would be kinder not to indulge him and leave him open to ridicule.

John,
You a clearly a man of some learning. You also often make interesting and informative comments on music, liturgy and history etc.
But, honestly, John, I'd leave the diagnosing of autism, and making judgements of who is or isn't "on the spectrum" to those qualified to make such a diagnosis.

Believe me, a qualified mental health clinician could have a "field day" speculating on what diagnosis best applies to more than a few contributors to Father's blog.

It would be extra work to moderate the posts but it would be greatly appreciated.

So now, Mr Nolan, from across the pond in the UK, you are now pontificating on the amount of space given to US politics on a US blog?

Chip said...

Yes, i would very much like to see such snideness as the Paul and last anon post never be posted. They serve no purpose but insult. Mr Nolan was right in his read of American politics although I would wager politics worldwide is a cesspit.

Even without the diagnosis the point is accurate. It is an additional burden, but Fr McDonald would improve the blog significantly by screening hijackers intended or otherwise.

There is room for political analysis on a Catholic blog which by definition raises issues which relate to the universal Church; but even you must find the hijacking of threads by partisan political mudslingers wearisome.

ASD is an umbrella term covering a wide range of perceived behavioural disorders no matter how mild or serious and is used by 'qualified mental health clinicians' as a convenient dumping ground which obviates the need for precise diagnosis. Most of my students seem to find themselves on the 'autistic spectrum' for one reason or another.

The symptoms I have described would certainly fit with what is a deliberately open-ended definition, and do not amount to a diagnosis.

US politics receives wide (some would say excessive) coverage outside the US and the level of toxicity is unprecedented in my lifetime. Politics is indeed a bearpit, but shouldn't be a cesspit.

Some no longer comment on this blog because of the level of vitriol, and it's all party political (with the exception of one commentator who regards any criticism of Pope Francis as 'Satanic' and resorts to excessive and oft-repeated hyperbole which leads some to question his mental state).

John Nolan,

The US, other than for Red China, has the most extreme abortion laws in the world. In some states you can even murder a child while the baby is coming down the birth canal. American liberals claim they "love" all things European, yet they reject the restrictions on abortion that exist in Europe based on the phony "right to choose." We have politicians who actually run on a campaign platform of unrestricted abortion and raise funds from the more depraved members of their party on this basis. Since I am not an expert in English law, do your bishops just sit silently if a politician in England behaves in this manner?
