Seminarian Kevin Braski who was with my parish last summer sent me the first picture of his senior year at Mt. deSales Academy in Macon. At the Senior class’s first Mass at St. Joseph, each senior receives a special individual blessing. It is a very nice tradition there. It was a blessing for me to offer it. He is currently in 1st theology at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia. Following that he did two years of Philosophy (pre Theology) at St. Benedict’s in Covington. Louisiana.
Seminarian will Cook (with backward cap) Kevin Braski above him, Fr. Pete May, who was my altar boy in Augusta and I gave him his First Communion, Fr. Drew Larkin, also a graduate of Mt. deSales Academy in Macon, and Deacon, soon to be Fr. Nate Swann, my convert from St. Joseph in Macon.

Lot of priests coming out of Macon!
And lots of people coming out of Macon---as in "leaving" for Houston, Jones, Monroe and other nearby counties.
How many students became priests after such blessings? Likely not enough to take care of diocese needs. The obvious problem is you are not blessing enough classes.
And not just seniors. At this rate of recruitment, you really should be blessing them all annually. And if need still be, then twice annually. A secret weapon is not much help if hardly used.
Go get'em, Tiger. Would not it be nice, if once again, larger dioceses needed a seminary of their own to handle all the vocations?
I love Father May
I have read that some seminarians in some Western nations were taught a LITTLE of Hegel and Marx in the 1930s and 1940s so as to know enough of their philosophy to effectively speak against it; likewise with existentialism in the 1950s and 1960s.
Lately I have wondered if seminarians studying philosophy in our era are taught anything about Postmodernism? A lot of this is not too hard to refute, for example: gender is a social construct !! .......except for transsexuals who were all born in the wrong body. Or postmodernism is a theory that says all theories are wrong etc....
But seriously, young priests today in Western nations are going to be working in cultures and societies where thanks to Woke scholar/activists and the power and influence of social media, millions of young people have been indoctrinated to accept the Postmodern and Woke dogmas such as thinking of all traditional “truths” and “categories” and even reality as having been socially and linguistically constructed according to the power interests of groups advantaged by such constructions - ie white, wealthy, heterosexual, Western males. And they’ve been educated at high school and college and universities to strive to recognise how discourses - how we have traditionally talked and wrote about things - have established and maintained and even still support white supremacy and the patriarchy.....
My youngest son is studying philosophy at a secular university and this is a tiny underlined section of one page of last year’s lecture notes....
Postmodernism = you don’t have direct knowledge of anything, even of yourself......your relation to yourself is mediated by your concepts, your language, and the society that gives you both.....and that society, or societies, for centuries in North America, the UK, Australia, New Zealand etc has been both systemically racist and patriarchal.
