THE PRESS I SAW DURING THE INVASION OF THE CAPITOL BUILDING ARE NOT MY FATHER’S PRESS!

I was in my office when all hell broke out from Trump supporters who invaded the Capitol Building. I did not have access to a television and thus had to rely on finding something on the internet. All I could get was CNN and FOX.

This was a hard news story and one would expect that we would get hard news reporting from reporters. CNN which once was the Cadillac of covering breaking news and the go to news network to watch, was a miserable failure, miserable.

What we got from CNN was hysterical political pundits masquerading as reporting a hard news, historic news. They gushed with indignation over what was happening and like diarrhea coming uncontrollably from their pundit mouths, they used their time on this network for therapy, psychological therapy.

They needed a therapist, not a national news platform.

I also watched FOX. For the most part they reported news without hysteria.

I am watching NBC now at the 7 pm hour and it is approaching 8 PM. They are very professional. Our local stations for ABC and CBS are showing normal programming.

NBC, thus far, has been measured and have been acting like legitimate reporters.

I think the elephant in the room which has been touched a bit by NBC is what to do with an unhinged President who is responsible for what happened today.

We are in dangerous times and we need good reporting, not hysteria from the so-called news media.

Where are Walter Conkright, Chet Huntley, David Brinkley, and the numerous other hard news reporters from the past going back to radio and print. We need them now, not what we have.

Trump is promoting this confrontation and encouraging it. If one cop gets killed or injured it is on Trump.

Trump is on his way out, and after today, most of his base will disown him. He tried to play by Dem rules of "peaceful protests", and same as them, it bit him and everything associated, meanwhile giving up high ground conservatives held, with the future now only holding an endless series of, "oh yeah? well, what about (fill in the blank)" into infinity passing for political debate.

It would be an entirely different matter were the intelligence services to announce massive fraud detected, but evidence is near zero past statistical anomolies/impossibilities and neither were Republicans set to gather it, not even in today's election where "observers" were not allowed to actually be close enough to see or read anything in Cobb Co which alone has enough votes to swing an election this close.

We need a wide open process where anyone with a just reason can count votes right along with the officials and keep them honest, no matter which party...and THAT, we do not have. We DO have a very corrupt process and always have, it only being which corrupt power in charge which seems to mean anything to anybody.

January 6, 2021. A day that will live in infamy.

If a network responded with "gushing indignation," well, GOOD FOR THEM!

To react with anything less is the response of a milquetoast nothing.

All we have today is an endless sea of Walter Durantys working in union with Stalinist/Hitlerite media suppression.

Cobb County observers can't be allowed to be close enough to read voters' names and how they voted. To expect otherwise is lunacy.

Unless of course you don't believe in secret ballots.

The hysteria of the news media brings in the dollars. At some point the news moved away from being an unbiased (not really, but they tried) public service to political commentary. A lot of it had to do with a change in a broadcasting law, but I also think 24-hour news channels have a lot to do with it. Your comment about an unhinged president is subtle bias. One investigative reporter suggested waiting until the smoke cleared and the facts were in before making judgement. There was the acknowledgement that MAGA advocates were involved, but it was also mentioned that the authorities were notified that Antifa might infiltrate undercover to stir up trouble. While at one time I could watch one news channel, I now have to review a series of channels to try and figure out what is going on. You are correct that there is a need for good news reporting.

Com'on, man! They did it in Portland, and burned down buildings... No one laid a finger on the "protestors". So what's the big deal? The press wasn't too excited about those "demonstrations."

Hmmmm. No bias here, right?

What we are watching, in case you are interested, is a color revolution. Look it up. It's what the U.S. did in many foreign countries to unseat a duly elected leader they didn't like. We are watching one happen to us, right before our own eyes.

God bless.

So sorry but names are not ballots, only the votes. Observers need access to verifications showing real voters allowed by law, and real ballots as they are counted. They are separate as they should be, and all which is required is numbers of one set match numbers of other set.

Biden, of course, will be a horrible president. If I lived in the USA, I myself could never imagine voting for a member of the current Democratic Party. Yet none of this means that Trump is qualified for office or that the election was somehow stolen from him. Trump has always been weak and incompetent. It is no surprise that he lost the election. I sincerely hope that Trump is impeached. By promoting falsehoods about a stolen election and stoking sedition in the Capital, President Trump has undermined key parts of US democracy that the American people will need to continue to depend on in the future. Trump’s reckless actions must be utterly repudiated.

How did the U.S.Capital prove so vulnerable to a seemingly disorganized and lightly armed mob?

Hysteria? Like when was the last time there was an invasion of the Capitol? Maybe the War of 1812?

But I agree with you on his being "unhinged". And of course he just has to slam his vice president for not "overturning" the Electoral College results, which of course he can't do. (I don't recall Joe Biden trying to "overturn" the 2016 results when he presided over the 2017 Electoral College count. I already regret voting for him this time. I won't make that mistake again. Maybe he should run for president of Belarus or one of those other run-down old Soviet fiefdoms.

Is it possible or even probable that Trump could get even more crazy over the next few weeks?

Unhinged? Wait until you see what Harris/Biden and the left have in store for the promotion of abortion and attacking of religious liberty. But you'll go along with it because they will do it with a smile on their face.

Yes, “unhinged” narcissist pretty much describes our sitting POTUS. I voted for him because of his stance on pro-life issues and a couple of other party agendas, but not for who he is as a person. Since the election two months ago, he has done almost nothing except complain. Nothing constructive, particularly about the raging health crisis. Vaccine produced in record time, but not being administered efficiently. No real guidelines. Apparently it is not a priority with him.
On Saturday I lost my younger brother, age 68 to this disease horror. He was taken by his wife to an urgent care with worsening respiratory symptoms that had started as a “cold”; but he could not get seen for 3 hrs as they were swamped. Finally an X-ray in early morning showed double pneumonia secondary to COVID and he died in an ambulance transporting him to hospital, despite three attempts to resuscitate. Dear God, grant his soul eternal rest, and our family the grace to forgive what happened. Right now I’m struggling to come to grips and find peace.

Last week Antifa was bragging (all over twitter) about them infiltrating this Trump rally in order to cause chaos and violence. After seeing what's going on, it's easy to spot the Antifa terrorists. It was a peaceful protest until Antifa turned up to disrupt. Agents of Satan clearly.

As usual, knowing a little history is useful. Conservatives hated Cronkite. and the media in general. Have you ever heard of Barry Goldwater? There was no golden era when everybody loved Uncle Walter. To the right wing, he was a polarizing figure for reporting on the civil rights movement & Vietnam. This press-baiting stuff has been going on forever. Human nature doesn’t change that much.

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

Antifa? Seriously? President Trump has been pouring tainted koolaide down the throats of people who feel disenfranchised who are his followers and has manipulated them with his lies. He instigated what happened yesterday. Yes, he did that not antifa.

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

Walter Conkright never did what CNN pundits did yesterday, never and no legitimate reporter prior to all of the 24 hour “news” channels which have become political arms of either the Democrats or Republicans, including NBC, CBS and ABC (and only Fox being the Republican arm) . That was not the case until relatively recently.

I just watched C-Span. All cameras were on, no commentary, and they broadcasted everything. House and Senate Chambers and everything in the Rotunda. It made the Euronews “No Comment” portion of their broadcast easy.

Republicans since McCarthy, Goldwater, Nixon and Agnew and probably long before have been singing from the same psalm book. The liberal media, Eastern Elite, bias, they're all against me, etc. Only the names change. And in a way, it's true. As Colbert likes to say, facts have a liberal bias. Liars. crooks and bigots probably aren't going to like their press coverage.

From Fr Z's blog:

"Now there are some reports that the pro Trump crowd which went to the Capitol was infiltrated by Antifa thugs. They possibly were the ones to flare the violence. Think about it. If you are an Antifa-type, isn't that what you would do?".

I agree with the above. Antifa involvement is possible. To 100% deny the possibility of Antifa involvement in instigating violent rioting or making it worse is, I believe, naive.

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

Antifa led all those Trump supporters to breach the outside and inside of the Capitol. That really makes Trump supporters look really, really, really stupid, foolish and capable of being led over a cliff and into a river to drown like the pigs that ran off a cliff and drowned in the Bible. Really?????? President Trump egged them on at his lengthy speech before hand and now for months.

Anonymous 9:40 News outlets have already talked to the man who took a selfie sitting at Nancy Pelosi's desk. He is a rabid Trump supporter from Arkansas. There are thousands of pictures and video all over social media and we'll likely learn more names today. It won't be hard. For the most part, they're proud and bragging about what they've done. The kind of people who post pictures of themselves on social media with a Confederate flag or a Nazi flag. Not the sharpest knives in the drawer, in other words. QAnon and Trump supporters, one and all.

JohnnyC, let's see:

Liberal Extremism = saying dumb stuff like "Awoman" and wanting silly inclusive language while maintaining the status-quo of abortion.

Conservative Extremism = inciting race riots, violence at the very Capitol building to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power, ignoring scientists resulting in many more dead from mishandled pandemic, sterilizing people, death penalty, and all while maintaining the status-quo of abortion.

Yep, things are sure gonna get pretty crazy under Biden/Harris.

Anonymous at 10.21am,

Let’s see:

The Woke hard Left is now like the authoritarian right of the past when it comes to smothering cultural and intellectual pluralism. And it is not only that they claim to want to protect racial and sexual minorities from discrimination and criticism and so on...they also believe that aggression and force are appropriate methods to achieve ideological goals.
Recent research has shown that while far right white identitarians and the Woke hard left have been thought to reflect opposing ends of the political spectrum they actually shared remarkably similar personality characteristics.......individuals in both groups are statistically much more likely than average to be higher in psychopathy, narcissism and Machiavellianism - the so-called three “Dark Triad” personality traits.

The dominant strain of cultural leftism WAS once primarily characterised by a spirit of compassion, but in our era it has increasingly come to be dominated by intolerant scolds who seem much more eager to shame and even punish those they hold to be heretics than to do any actual good in the world.

Strongly disagree with this column. It's not about who is "unhinged". It's about the onset of undemocratic, totalitarian rule. The People chose Donald Trump to be president in 2016. Almost certainly they did so again in 2020. There is very good reason to believe that blatant electoral fraud took place which denied The People their choice. It could well mean the end of our existence as a democratic republic.

We are now effectively a one-party state with no political freedom worthy of the word. We will have religious liberty as long as it amuses our undemocratic rulers to grant us such, but not in the sense of having it as a "right" that our rulers are bound to respect. The Covid rule- by-edict era has already proven that.

Yes the "riot" at the Capitol was bad, though peanuts compared to what happened for months on end in dozens of U.S. cities last year, with the media, politicians, and much of the clergy either supporting the "peaceful demonstrators"or,at best, offering only the most carefully circumscribed criticism of the "few" troublemakers as distinguished from the mobs(though we were lectured not to call them that!) No one called on politicians who encouraged and partook of these "demonstrations" during a time of pandemic no less, to leave office, resign, or face impeachment.

Nevertheless, the lawlessness at the Capitol was wrong and it shouldn't have happened. We should find out exactly who provoked it and prosecute them, and affirm that the overwhelming majority present were peacefully exercising their civil liberties, though how long they'll be permitted to do that in our new era is questionable. But in the long run, bad as it was it's small potatoes compared to the loss of integrity and trust in the electoral system. The damage to the Capitol, unfortunate as it was, thankfully was minor. The damage wrought by 2020 electoral fraud is likely irreparable.

Most of actual Trump supporters merely followed the crowd and are seen inside milling around as befuddled tourists. The Q-shaman wierdo says the security moved aside let them in and a photo shows him being politely redirected by a man in uniform, the guy in Pelosi's office found it while looking for a bathroom and stayed to ham it up for media....

yes, many idiots....but look at who were the true and practiced brawlers who took on the cops....yes, you will find some Trump supporters, maybe also Proud Boys, but you also WILL find Antifa as even the WASHINGTON TIMES ran with today.

The poor girl shot to death by the trigger sloppy security guy was not engaged in any violence, she was merely milling around. Likely the guy who shot her was the grey crewcut security plainclothes seen in photos in chamber at door leaning on trigger of his safetiless Glock against ALL dept training unless an immediate threat to life exists, ...and from behind a barricaded door and NOT being fired upon comes nowhere close to meeting that criteria.

"Almost certainly they did so again in 2020."

Certainly, they did not. No " almost" about it according to the 50 state governments that oversee their elections.

29 of those states are controlled by the Republican party.

We are no more a one-party state now than we were when the Republican party held the White House and majorities in both the Senate and the House. To refresh your memory that happened at the opening of Congress under Trump, G W Bush, and Eisenhower.

As they have been in the past, predictions about the imminent demise of our democratic republic are nothing short of poppycock.

Like the claims of widespread election fraud, the claims about Antifa involvement doubtless dwell in the diabolical world of “alternative facts” promoted by the Father of Lies. See

When Democrats lose, they claim "voter suppression". When Republicans lose, they claim "voter fraud". When a third party candidate loses, who knows what he or she says, as hardly anyone notices.

Trump has made so many outlandish claims, you hardly know when to believe him. One of his more outlandish ones, from his phone call to the Georgia Secretary of State, claims he won the state "big" by a half million votes. No one of sound political mind would think that Trump could win Georgia by two and a half times his 211,000-vote margin over Clinton in 2016, not with the demographic changes in Georgia or the revulsion many upper-income suburbanites, especially women, have with Trump. IF he was going to win Georgia, it would not be by much, given how narrow Brian Kemp's victory was for governor here in 2018 (55,000 votes). 8 of Georgia's 10 largest voting counties (one of those being Chatham-Savannah) are reliably Democratic, anchored by Fulton and DeKalb Counties. Then Trump says "everyone knows" he won in a landslide. Really? Like Reagan's 49-state, 59 percent showing against Mondale in 1984? Since 2000, neither side has cleared 53 percent in a presidential race. Trump actually trailed Clinton by 2 points nationally in 2016 but won thanks to his "Hail Mary" in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Well, at least he is not alone in being a president who could never clear 50 percent nationally; Bill Clinton failed to do so in 1992 and 1996, mainly because of Ross Perot.

Bee,

You can “say” all you like. Sayin’ doesn’t make it so, although I do agree that a falsehood repeated over and over again will eventually brainwash people, which is what Trump has done to all of those who still believe his election fraud con.

Where is the proof, Bee? You read the links I sent you (or did you?), including an interview with the “shaman” guy himself. The weight of the evidence is clearly against his being Antifa—clear and convincing, and perhaps even beyond a reasonable doubt (just as with the alleged election fraud, by the way).

You work with a law firm I believe (if I recall your comments in previous posts correctly) and should understand how evidence works.
