This reality re the scouting movement, like the extent of child sex abuse in state/public schools and orphanages etc in the recent past, and the often nightmare levels of sex abuse of minors in indigenous communities occurring now will never receive one tenth of the media coverage given to the child sex abuse that has occurred in Catholic institutions. A large segment of society has been conditioned to : think of child sex abuse - think Catholic priests; think Catholic priests - think child sex abuse. The Catholic Church has had a serious problem with child sex abuse; and it good that this has been uncovered and exposed BUT the nature and extent of the coverage by most mainstream media over almost 3 decades has obscured for many people 2 truths: child abuse has occurred in all institutions and occurs most often within extended families. If the following statistics are approximately correct that about 1 in 5 girls and about 1 in 8 boys are sexually abused before the age of 16, the majority of the abusers are people like the uncles, cousins and stepfathers etc and boyfriends of single mothers of those abused. A well known agnostic and secular family/relationship therapist in our city has claimed that she can not recall one major media investigation or media coverage in the past 30 years of how often the boyfriend of a single mother can molest the children of the woman he is in a short term relationship with.
Yes, the Catholic Church and the Boy Scouts weren’t targeted solely for the sexual abuse of minors. They were targeted because they went against the LBGTQ police. Start a large scale campaign against NYC public schools and see how far you get with that
The academic, Choral Shakeshaft, has studied and researched the sexual abuse of children by public school employees since 1994. The mainstream media should do a story on itself why her extensive research and findings have been largely ignored for the past 25 years. I can really recommend googling : Shakeshaft sex abuse public schools. One can read articles on the extent of sexual abuse in public schools that has been largely ignored by the mainstream media for almost 3 decades.
