D.C.'s embattled Catholic leader, Donald Wuerl, under fire in recent days for untruthful statements regarding what he knew about the alleged sexual misconduct of his predecessor, Theodore McCarrick, apologized late Tuesday, saying he forgot he knew about the allegations and that it was “never the intention to provide false information.”

"Forgot he knew??!" Is this like Vigano mistakenly labeling the "private sanctions" as "canonical sanctions???!"

So... he forgot to remember what he was supposed to forget?

Why didn't he just say that in the first place? His natural response is like that of a politician: parsing words and spinning the response. No wonder he's in DC.
The extension of forgetting that you heard that a bishop was operating a gay brothel crossing international borders out of a seminary is that it didn’t bother you enough to remember it.

Perhaps he did forget, but, if so, it shows the issue was of little importance to him at the time which itself reveals a lot about him if not the entire USA Church hierarchy.
He is in his upper 70's and for a person his age he had much on his plate. But....
That he would forget about what his predecessor did to a priest Wuerl had met and deemed his accusations were credible is beyond the pale but I would agree with Victor, if indeed he did forget, then it reveals much and sadly so.
Judge: Why didn't you pay your taxes?
Defendant: Your Honor, I forgot.
Judge: Well you won't forget next year!

Did he forget because he knows of so many bishops and priests who are active homosexual molesters and read so many reports that he forgot McCarrick was one of them?
So much for the credibility of our shepherds.

Police: Well, we have certain proof here of your DNA and the victim's DNA on the murder weapon, and an eyewitness that proves you did it.
Suspect: Oh. I forgot I killed him.
