VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Disgraced former U.S. cardinal Theodore McCarrick is almost certain to be defrocked in the next few weeks over allegations against him, including sexual abuse of minors, two Vatican sources said.

I doubt defrocking will occur. McCarrick is accustomed to a certain lifestyle and knows too much. I think they will be very worried that if the punishment is too harsh, he'll spill the beans.
The push back would be too great if Francis doesn’t laicize him, but I do think ViganĂ²’s letter is precisely to warn the higher ups that if McCarrick comes clean through a singular grace of God, other heads at the Vatican will roll, including the visible head.
