Hey, it's very simple ... Yesterday was liturgically the first Sunday of Ordinary time--the Sunday of the first week of Ordinary Time--but was not itself a day of Ordinary Time. Because today (Monday) is the first day of Ordinary Time--the first day with ordinary time Mass and Liturgy of the Hours. Capiche? Makes perfect sense, by Novus Ordo standards.
I think ordinary time begins after Compline of the Sunday that is the Baptism of the Lord, and with the Office of Readings that follows those prayers. Perhaps the first Sunday of OT is the evening Mass of the BotL: with the vigil and morning Mass being the conclusion of the Christmas season. I voted they screwed it all up.
