Ironically, Bill Cosby over the course of his long career did more to foster positive relations between the races, than cheap race baiters and hustlers like Obama, Sharpton, and Jackson. A real tragedy

One has to wonder why the Left is doing this to a prominent, famous and respected black man. I have often thought it is because of his very un-Leftist positions on what is going wrong in the black community...

From the L.A. Times: "[Cosby is] An outspoken scold who chastised poorer blacks on issues ranging from bad grammar to the squandering of opportunities provided by the civil rights movement."..."Ground zero of Cosby's long-fraught relationship to African Americans is a 2004 ceremony at Howard University celebrating the anniversary of the 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education desegregation decision.

During an address at the event, Cosby issued a strong rebuke to young blacks.

"These people marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we have these knuckleheads running around," he said of what he perceived as young people disrespecting the legacy of civil rights activists. "I can't even talk the way these people talk: 'Why you ain't,' 'Where you is' ... and I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk. ... Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth."

He also knocked their fashion sense: "Are you not paying attention, people with their hat on backwards, pants down the crack?" Even when several prominent blacks expressed displeasure with the remarks, Cosby did not back down.

While some in the black community praised Cosby for his bluntness, saying his statements were painful but on target, others felt his tone and some of his words were harmful and elitist, particularly younger blacks."

He speaks the truth to power. He gets destroyed...

God bless.

No one is "doing this" to anyone.

Cosby did it to himself. He committed heinous crimes and is paying the price.

Bill Cosby did indeed do good things for the black community and to improve race relations. We are all a mix of good and bad and evil.

That's the reality of original sin and our need for redemption and punishment due our sins in this life and the life to come.

The fact is that Cosby along with countless other celebrities where closely linked to Hugh Hefner and the Playboy empire that did so much to denigrate human sexuality and women.

It is Hugh Hefner that should be on trial and in the afterlife this has occurred.

Anonymous Kavanaugh,

LOL - you liberals truly are the poster children for hypocrite. Bill Clintoon did far worse and so did Ted Kennedy, but they got a pass because they were part of the liberal, "elite" Democratic controlled establishment. There was a credible allegation of rape against Bill Clinton when he was AG in Arkansas. And then his loudmouthed "Wife" Hillary went on a rant that all women should be taken seriously in this context (unless it's my husband of course).

Have you no decency, have you no shame? May God have mercy on your soul

I'll be called a fuddy duddy and a prude for saying it, but women will be at both their most "empowered" and safe from predatory behavior when both men and women accept that the natural place for sexual identity is within the context of marriage. Service is perfect freedom. Sexual liberation has chiefly benefited sexual predators.

Gene said...

This is not about Hugh Hefner, or about Cosby's alleged promotion of good race relations. It is about his apparently well-known abuse and molestation of women and girls. It does not matter what side of the political spectrum one happens to be on. There are abusers and perverts on both sides and in the middle. Cosby is trash. Quit making excuses for him. This kind of behavior is NEVER justifiable.

I say, compare what happened to Bill Cosby with what happened to Bill Clinton for what amounts to the same behavior.... Why the difference?

Gene, you are quite correct.

What Bill Clinton or Ted Kennedy did have no bearing whatsoever on what Bill Cosby as done.

This is classic "whatabouism" and it doesn't change Cosby's guilt.

You comment, "And then his loudmouthed "Wife" Hillary went on a rant..." reveals that you are part of the problem.

A woman stand up and speaks her mind and she is "loudmouthed" and on a "rant." Let your man Trump do the same, and you praise him as one who speaks his mind and doesn't give into political correctness.

I agree with you. I was only trying to note the selective prosecution aspect of it, and asked myself, why is that? I'm not hearing any criminal charges being filed against Charlie Rose or Tavis Smiley either, among many others....

Anonymous Kavanaugh,

I know you voted for Mrs. Abortion, Hillary Clintoon. She is a total, utter and complete hypocrite and as recent events have proven, totally unhinged from reality. She actively tried to destroy women who exposed her husband for what he was - a vile satyr. And Bee is correct. Our outrage is at the selective enforcement of the laws, Cosby gets it, but Clintoon and Slimeball Ted Kennedy walk. If only Cosby had chosen to be a Democratic politician, he would have gotten away with this.

Gene said...

Anon @ 10:01 the quote about "his wife going on a rant": is not from me.

Anonymous said...

TJM - You do not know who I voted for.

Regardless, who anyone voted for is not germane.

And, regardless, whether or not Clinton is a hypocrite has nothing whatsoever to do with Crosby's crimes.

I hope you never are foolish enough to say such things 1) in a room with sexual abuse survivors and 2) where you are not comfortably anonymous.

Blame Obama, Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Ted Kennedy, Hillary & Bill or Hugh Hefner.
Never mind blaming the guy accused by dozens of woman and convicted beyond a reasonable doubt.
Never mind personal responsibility. Blame society!
It's the conservative way.

Bee here:

Anonymous at April 27, 2018 at 2:15 PM is absolutely correct so say that " ...whether or not Clinton is a hypocrite has nothing whatsoever to do with Crosby's crimes." But who is arguing that? Did you miss the point? (I doubt it. Yours is a sly and subtle change of subject.)

We are only arguing how it seems that those who are "connected" and PC don't seem to have the same consequences either socially or criminally as those who defy the "Party line." In fact, Cosby got away with these crimes for many years...many, many years while he was still in favor with the powers that be. But once he made statements against the Democratic-Communist Party line, suddenly these sexual misdeeds are an outrage, and he is destroyed.

In other words, there seems to be a political factor in the outrage of the Left that takes persons into consideration. Instead of their cries for justice being "blind" and no respecter of persons, there is selective prosecution.

I don't excuse Cosby at all. I am glad he is being held accountable for his actions. But I would believe the sincerity of the Left more if I saw the same outrage and eager persistence to prosecute and jail Bill Clinton or Ted Kennedy (when he was alive) for the same or worse behavior.

God bless.

While anybody can accuse anybody of anything, here is no credible allegation that Bill Clinton or Ted Kennedy drugged and raped more than 50 women. Or for that matter, Obama, Sharpton, Jesse Jackson or Hillary or Hugh Hefner.

And whatever you think of Hugh Hefner (I found his lifestyle and values repulsive) nobody ever argued that the women posing in his magazine or clubs or mansion weren't consenting adults. To argue that Hefner, not Cosby, should be on trial is disgusting.

False witness.

TJM said...

Bee and I see it the same way, a different rule for pro-abortion evil liberals and a different rule for everyone else. I don't know how you live with yourselves. And Kavanaugh, yes, you vote for the Abortion Party which shows how shallow your spirituality and commitment to the Catholic Faith is. It's beyond disgusting. I hope you are not in a room with others, including abuse survivors, so you can explain your double standard for judging Abortion Party pols and everyone else.

May Jesus Christ bring forgiveness and healing to everybody involved in the unfortunate sexually-related events that have for decades pertained to Mister Cosby.

Jesus Christ...forgiveness...healing.

If you think Bill Cosby isn't "connected," think again. These allegations have been floating around in the open for eighteen years. Eighteen years. His "connections" helped him fend off the day of reckoning for a long, long time.

Harvey Weinstein and the host of more recent - much more recent - perps will, I have no doubt, see their days in court. Maybe B. Clinton won't be there, maybe he will.

But the suggestion that it is the "left" who is orchestrating this process is absurd.

Oh, the list of Democrats who have faced the music for their crimes in recent times includes:
Chaka Fattah (D-PA)
Laura Richardson (D-CA)
William J. Jefferson (D-LA)
Frank Balance (D-NC)
Frank Trafficant (D-OH)
Wade Sanders (D - Asst Setcy of the Navy)
Darleen Druyun (D-Dept Secty Air Force)
Mel Reynolds (D-IL)
Austin Muyrphy (D-PA)
Carl C. Perkins (D-KY)
Carroll Hubbard (D-KY)
Mary Rose Oakar (D-OH)
Walter Fauntroy (D-D.C.)
Dan Rostenkowski (D-IL)
Joe Kolter (D-PA)
Among others...

The wheels of justice turn slowly, but grind exceedingly fine.

There should be no surprise at all that these industries are filled with sexual predators. My goodness, look at their product! What is surprising, frankly, is that women finally tired of being exploited in this way to get work. That is a wonderful and great turn of events, although I will express some skepticism that it may have been started by women who paid the price and got less than they wanted. Regardless, they seem to have done the right thing so good for them.

I don't know if this is an action orchestrated by the Left or not. But as I was thinking about your comment, I thought of the Scriptures that clearly point out that it was the Pharisees and Scribes who orchestrated the death of Jesus.

Not to say that Cosby is a martyr, but only that it illustrates that power will sometimes use the state to punish or destroy political enemies.

WRONG! It makes a huge difference--as to whether or not one is pursued in the media and under the law. Witness Washington today, where public criminals on the left go scot free, while seemingly innocent on the right get the book thrown at them.

Interesting that those who have been sexually assaulted in the past are now referred to as 'survivors' rather than 'victims'. I might survive a serious traffic accident, or an attempt to murder me, or an earthquake. But I am the victim of (say) a burglary.

Does it mean that most of those whom Cosby assaulted are now dead? If so, the offences must have occurred a long time ago, which isn't the case. Does it mean that their ordeal was so life-threatening that they are lucky to be still around? No-one is suggesting that.

Or is it a subtle but deliberate misuse of language, of a sort which is depressingly familiar these days?

Anonymous said...

We used to say those who had lived through cancer and treatment were "victims." They are, however, properly termed survivors.

The ordeal of sexual assault is life threatening. Those who live through it are, indeed, survivors, and we should acknowledge that extraordinary reality.

John Nolan said...

Anonymous, you have just conceded my point. Those who have survived cancer are 'in remission'. Cancer is a life-threatening disease. One of those women who alleged sexual assault (and this is now so widely defined as to include 'inappropriate behaviour' as you are well aware) continued to act alongside him.

The same applies to those actresses who claimed to have been abused by Harvey Weinstein but still were happy for him to advance their careers. Their lives were not threatened. The use of the term 'victim' is in some cases stretching the definition of the word, and the use of 'survivor' is manipulating language for the purpose of what is now termed 'virtue signalling'.

Thank you for confirming my suspicion. Even trolls like you can be useful sometimes, although it's usually inadvertent.

Anonymous said...

John Nolan - No, "inappropriate behavior" and "sexual assault" are not the same.

We once referred to cancer "victims." That is, in my experience, rare these days. They are more commonly known as survivors.

We used to refer to people with mental disabilities as "retarded." That, too, is fairly rare, though there are some who cling to the term.

Your definition of a threat to life seems too narrow. Survive: "continue to live or exist, especially in spite of danger or hardship." Anyone who has survived sexual assault, even if mortal force was not employed, will tell you they survived.

A person can survive a grueling academic examination, a six hour sermon by a mystical German, or the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.

John Nolan said...

You suffer from a disease, although you may survive it. I have never heard those who suffer from a life-threatening disease being referred to as victims, since the term implies a perpetrator. The fact that you are still living after attending (say) a Novus Ordo Mass celebrated by Fr Kavanaugh is a given, in which case 'survive' is used ironically.

However, when used to describe victims of alleged sexual assault, it is not meant ironically. It is an example of 'loaded' language. In the same way, those who question anthropogenic climate change are referred to as 'climate change deniers'.

Those of us with a modicum of common sense and a feeling for the language can spot these things a mile off.

Anonymous said...

"I have never heard those who suffer from a life-threatening disease being referred to as victims,..."

Well, your experience is not universal, now is it?

Yes, people with cancer were called victims. The "perpetrator" in this case was the disease.

A person who not only denies but questions the human causes of climate change are climate change deniers. Nothing loaded about that.

Is it "loaded" language to say that those who question or deny the Nazi Holocaust are "Holocaust Deniers?" Nope.

John Nolan said...

Anonymous, your boneheadedness makes you concede my point time after time. 'Climate change deniers' is loaded PRECISELY because it invites comparison with 'Holocaust deniers'. And those who question the human causes of climate change do not deny climate change, which has always been happening, so 'climate change deniers' is not merely loaded; it is wilfully dishonest.

John Nolan said...

'A person who not only denies but questions[!] the human causes of climate change are (sic) climate change deniers'. Leaving aside the obvious solecism, this is an astonishing statement which even anonymous numbskulls like you can hardly troll their way out of.

I think I shall dust off the term 'retarded' - it has clearly not outlived its usefulness.
