THIS IS SO SWEET, SO TOUCHING, SO EMPATHETIC, SO IN THE SPIRIT OF VATICAN II PASTORAL SENSITIVITY, SO WONDERFUL AND SUCH A WONDERFUL WAY TO MOVE FORWARD AND YES, MAKE A MESS!

Does this qualify as sacrilegious and the use of a sacred place for the inane and silly? Should the priest be reprimanded, suspended a divinis for a time or is the worse sin in this diocese to celebrate the Extraordinary Form of the Mass? Just what will his bishop do? Praise him for his creativity in ministering to a bereaved member of the parish? Who knows?

This brings to mind something that you probably won't allow to be published. There used to be a priest in your very own diocese who would officiate funerals for peoples' pets. Not a Mass in the church, mind you, but still...

I've never been asked to do a pet's funeral that I recall. I did pray for a child's sick rodent once.

I think a family member could do a prayer of some kind for comfort. I don't think anyone should pray for the soul of a departed creature.

Maybe this more of the coloring book Catholic's sort of stuff?

Mercy is sadly being dispensed without Justice in this day and age in the Church. So what if ms butter buns lost her little poopy? This is asinine and borderline sac religious. Yes I say eccleastical penalties must be applied. I would recommend a period of reflection and then a chat to see if that priest would do it again. Yes? Collar gone, enough said.

There might be a blessing a priest can do on dead pets in the book of blessings at the gravesite. If that is possible, fine, but not that in the video. Perhaps you can expand more on that FR AJM?

It also shows disregard for humanity, making gods out of pets over humans. Plus what if an actuall human died? That's a waste of a parish time slot!

Given the way things seem to be going these days, this is probably going to lead to calls for animal sainthood and male animals to be priests. Ridiculous.

There is already a provision for the blessing of animals. I think that's enough.

There Masses for cattle and crops. I suppose these people have some husbandry over these creatures. I also think this is what they think of the Church and the priest is living down to their views.

I hope they sang 'Canis Angelicus'. Seriously, Flanders was once one of the most devout Catholic countries in Europe with a Mass attendance of 95 per cent. Now it is five per cent. Nothing to do with Vatican II - perish the thought!

After the disastrous Suenens and Danneels (the latter is still a great favourite of Pope Francis) Leonard restored some sanity but he is now up for retirement. The favourite to succeed is Johan Bonny, bishop of Antwerp, who has openly espoused 'gay' marriage.

I was in Antwerp last month and if anyone should like to criticize me for attending the vibrant SSPX parish then he can go ahead and do so; I will tell him where to get off, whether he be priest, bishop or pope.

How long, O Lord, how long?

Thank you, God, that I can't understand the language in the video, because the images were appalling enough for me. The words might have really put me in a tailspin!

Jesus Christ sweat blood, was beaten nearly to death, scourged, humiliated, crowned with a wreath of thorns, forced to carry the instrument of His execution, nailed to a cross, and died --- for THIS????

Satan continues to mock Him, even to this day.

Do not forget that the "animal rights" movement is HUGE in Europe and many subscribe to the Singer/PETA philosophy that the life of an animal and the life of a human being are equal, which is why PETA can say that the death of 6 million Jews is morally equivalent to the death of six million chickens. It's a very dangerous philosophy with a many contradictions but still popular especially among celebrities like Paul McCartney pushing their "meat free" Mondays for that reason. No one says that animals should be abused and I for one believe animals have dignity. But to make them equivalent to human life is something else. This anthropomorphism closer to Hinduism than Christianity is insidious. The Church warns us about giving animals the same worth and love as one would an animal.

Well, Pope Francis is on record opposing excessive spending on pets and cosmetics. I don't think he would like this nonsense, either.

I just keep hoping the Spanish Inquisition will turn up when no one expects it.

Dogs are the new children they say. I've seen many an "I love my grand-dogs" bumper sticker. There's a new pet mausoleum at the cemetery. I worked with someone who kissed her beagle on the mouth. Dog marriage is next. How does this priest have time for this? Priests in my diocese are running 3 and 4 parishes alone.

Well, my former now deceased pastor had a funeral Mass for his cat "Muffin". Pretty much par for the course for a Church that has allowed nonsense for the last 50 years. The Church of today has become a ridiculous joke. From a pope who wears a clown nose to a priest offering "Mass" for a cat. And Cardinal Burke gets publicly humiliated and demoted. But there is nothing wrong it's the season of mercy.

I don’t have a dog in this fight but it seems that they might be barking up the wrong tree.

Seriously, though, it is fascinating to contemplate the changing attitudes towards our world and our fellow creatures. For example, it seems that for centuries the Church used to put wild animals and vermin on trial (domesticated animals were tried in the lay courts), according them rights of due process. No-one fully understands why. I have my own theory but it seems that ultimately we are left to speculate. That the Church apparently used to do this, however, should give us pause and counsel some humility. For a good introduction see the following article (at pp. 1198-1216):

It's all about contraception. The more prevalent the contraceptive culture becomes, the more perverse our relationships will be, with everything from same-sex marriages (the ultimate contraception) to filial pets (the ultimate fruitlessness). The devil must be laughing his head off.
